Fall of a Madman
To put it bluntly, this mission was... a nightmare, literally. Our group consisted of Sith Sarias; Apprentices A'tul, Ira, Hass, Ignia, Mal, Zotam, and Polaris; Acolytes Khassarn and Durotsu; myself, and Specialist Wellsow. Sith Sarias brought some of her own formula of biological destruction in grenade form, as well as two very large beasts, I had my flamethrower equipment and thermals... we were prepared. Or, at least, we thought we were.
The goal was to eradicate the traces of beings made by our runaway Lord Iyunotsia from the Sphere of Biotic Sciences, I do believe, whom we'd had run-ins with twice before. Some of the group were there for one or both, and I was there for the first, which led to some rather interesting times in therapy. Anyway: the facility was dark, abandoned. First we found some old equipment from twenty years back or more, given a long history of warring. We found some old project tubes, a couple of datapads with a younger Lord steadily declining from making supersoldiers to making monstrosities. We went down an elevator, and it was still... dark, oppressive.
Down here, we went through, and we saw slumped soldiers, scientists. One actually *alive*, but everything here hadn't been used for years, and there was refuse piled. Going through this room, we went up a ramp, and suddenly encountered our first opponent, one of the... behemoth things made up of multiple worms. Appentice A'tul jumped back and instructed everyone to form a line, and I believe pulled me and the Specialist back, leaving Apprentice Mal alone to fight the beast since we'd been scouting - Sith Sarias came up to fight it, however. Between the Specialist's grenade, my flame, and Sarias' attack, it went down hard, but not before ripping off Apprentice Mal's arm straight out of the socket and throwing him against me and the Specialist. Unfortunately, with the arm infested, we could not retrieve it.
The next part of the facility held four more of those things, dormant - at Apprentice A'tul's order, I incinerated them as they stood. And then the next room... was active. Live creatures in cages, melded abominations with stabbing implements for arms, beating at them. An oppressive presence in the back of my mind, enough to prompt Sarias to state that any sith capable needed to use Mental Barriers, telling me "I would die here". It's... where the parts get fuzzy, and what I remember doesn't quite match the bodycam footage attached, but the room was spinning, bodies rising. Wellsow and myself were suffering, before dripping occurred, and the room devolved into chaos.
A many-mouthed horror attacked from the ceiling while the tool-armed things attacked on the ground. The mouthed thing had tendrils after them, as well, but it grabbed at various members of the group, including myself. While the ground fight was vicious, the toxin grenades were working, some igniting. I aimed my flamer at the ceiling and started going to work, which prompted it to grab me by my fuel tanks so I couldn't aim at it - detaching with Apprentice Ira's help, she ignited it, spreading liquid fire across the whole monstrosity as it tried to eat the things. Sending raining, flaming chunks down.
By this point, most all had cuts, slashes, a couple had burns from the bio-toxin of Sith Sarias, but we were relatively alive. Apprentice Polaris lost a Wingmaw named "Sweetie", I had spikes through my armor and at my waist from being picked up once by tendrils and having to saw my knife through them to get free. But we continued into a room with... fleshy, biomass-ridden walls and floor, along and deeper as the mental presence got stronger. Everything's fuzzy from here on, but I think Apprentice Ira got to the last room and worked at a console, while Lord Iyunotsia made an appearance, standing in front of a many-limbed monstrosity. Some of the Apprentices wanted to settle it with blades, but a Thermal Detonator from myself landed at the man's feet.
"This vessel has served its purpose", I believe he said, before he disappeared into superheated atoms. The Lord undone in an instant... and then the walls began to shudder, and a voice rang out that the facility was self-destructing, presumably Ira's work. It spoke in our minds that we were next for killing the Lord, and we were going to die with it. Cue the frantic tactical retreat as we saw horrors swarming, swiping from the walls - we did not stop. We found one of Sarias' beasts at the top of the elevator torn apart. "Steven", I believe? We got to the shuttle, and explosions rocked the facility, destroying everything utterly. For good, this time.
A few samples have been submitted to Sith Sarias for cataloguing, to understand what all this was and what went wrong. Apprentice A'tul, in moments of anger I can only assume, threatened Apprentice Ira's life with a lightsaber to her throat if she didn't destroy them immediately, but the Sith talked him down. This footage is attached as well, though was a minor follow-up, and she also told me to keep her informed of my... well, state. I can only assume she's concerned about me, and perhaps Wellsow, after being in the middle of that Dark Side hellhole, but it could also be observation of how we deal with its effects.
Nonetheless, after a shower, a good couple nights of rest, some recovery... and a lot of talk with a very disgruntled therapist, I'm mostly alright. It's just another mission with Horuset at the end of the day, and definitely not my first encounter with the Weird and Strange cooked up by Alchemy and Sorcery. It is, however, one of the most horrifying, and if it's noticed that I check ceilings from now on, there's a good damn reason.
Final Verdict
I don't know whether the Lord's words mean more to the Sith than to I, but for all intents and purposes, him and his oldest research facility are gone. He was responsible for many Imperial deaths in the name of his research. I would like to put in for the Mark of the Patriot for his termination, technically, without fuss or remorse and without giving him a chance to hurt the team I was with further.
The Medal of Unbreakable Will might come into question, but I think myself and Wellsow more gibbered and suffered than repulsed anything. However, I would still recommend it for himself, for despite that, he pressed on, at the forefront with rifle in hand on every occasion. He showed admirable mental fortitude, training in the heat of the moment, and if I could give him a Commendation, I would - as it is, I can only recommend him for such, and I'd gladly work alongside him again. Not every soldier can go through what we did and still come out swinging until the end.
Despite heavy injuries across the board, only Apprentice Teran Mal suffered one that took him out of the fight completely, besides the death of two creatures. We lick our wounds and we carry on, learning from all this. The mission is a success, but at cost.
For the Empire, for Darth Horuset,
Corporal Thymius '"Savior" Hunter
