SUBJECT: After Action Report: Belkadan Dauntless Investigation
INTRODUCTION:
The ghost ship known as "The Dauntless" has been striking targets that are soft freighter ships, never actual military vessels. It has avoided conflict and prayed on the cargo shipping lines.
Summary:
Mission Status: Partial Success
Our misson took us to Belkadan trying to follow the lead provided by Kaleehis' informats but that intel lead us on a longer chase. Given that the traitor Zikarn Ignia had previously tried to locate the vessel we landed by his ruined estate on the planet. Once there with the cooperation of the local garrison guarding the site Kaleehi and myself searched what we could access in his old files. I myself came across his attempts to locate the Dauntless and managed to deduce with this information how we might find it learning from his failures.
Kaleehi and I next devised the plan to try be captured as bait pretending to be cargo to be taken by the Dauntless but it proved futile as we arrived safely at the Sernpidal Shipyards. I can however report that we know the exact route and direction the ship strikes at, the hyperlane of Sernpidal-Helska-Belkadan. Only along this route and in this direction will we be able to make contact with the Dauntless. My suggestion is an infiltration and strike mission posing as a cargo vessel to be rid of this strain on the supply lines.
Deployed Location:
Belkadan, Ignia Estate ruins, Sernpidal Shipyard
Deployed Personnel:
Apprentice Vayek Vipion (lead)
Apprentice Mos Kaleehi
Apprentice Daxze Trihza
Apprentice Mayaz Viasma
Duration of Deployment:
[15/10/2022]
Details of Operation:
On the Horuset Estates we took an imperial shuttle given the records of the imperial targeted strikes as well as the Rustrunner, dividing up our forces on the two ships. We made for the Belkadan system to try locate the Dauntless as this is where Kaleehi had soldiers reporting the ship's presence to him. However we did not find the Daunltess there but rather a garrison force. An S-Class Light Cruiser of the 14th reserve fleet, Battle Group Kalakar was guarding in orbit. We were contacted by a Captain Vern Killern. The ship was guarding synchronized above the ruins of the traitor Ignia's estate. As we declared who we were and who we served we were allowed access and landed. The ruins decorated by the banners of Saltaeon and Kalkoran. We made it inside without issue to look into what records the traitor might have as he had once before looked into the Dauntless on behalf of the Raiders without providing results.
After a review of the files detailing his past efforts trying to locate the Dauntless with the use of pirates and trackers in crates it was made apparent the ship was not here but the only definitive lead seemed to be near Sernpidal. We requested a pilot crew from Captain Killern as well as sealed pilot suits to endure space exposure. With some help and preparation we set up cargo crates to hide ourselves in with oxygen and supplies protected by the suits. Our intent had been to have the shuttle head for Sernpidal and feign us as a cargo vessel, with Daxze helming the Rustrunner at a safe distance to evacuate us if needed. Unfortunately the Dauntless did not pick up on the bait. We took the route from Belkadan to Helska on to the Sernpidal shipyards.
Our ruse seemingly unsuccessful but while at the Shipyards I learned that the local planetary government have ceased to report the more recent raids and classified them, effectively covering up their failure to handle the situation. Ships and cargo are still however still missing. The way to prevent it is to go with unofficial smaller ships or military escort, both which will prove costly and distract from the war effort. It's notable that ships only ever get dropped out of hyperspace and targeted in one specific direction and route, that of Sernpidal - Helska - Belkadan. If we wish to take the Dauntless I recommend we do a more prepared strike team travelling along this route to board the Dauntless and be taken onboard hidden among the cargo to put a stop to it. As is present then Belkadan's export is left unhindered where as the import is severely affected along the imperial supply lines.
Comments:
During our search of the Ignia ruins, Mos Kaleehi managed to find a hidden compartment in a chair sidearm in a conference room we searched. It housed several adrenal stims and seemed to have once housed a blaster. Kaleehi believes this to be an illegal possession of Ignia's part.
