The Sith Code. The very embodiment of what it means to be Sith.
Every Sith that roams the galaxy, every Lord, every apprentice, even the newly-arrived acolytes to the Academies know the code and its importance by heart. The Code is what gives us meaning. And we all follow that code, even if we all have our different interpretations of it.
Even within Powerbase’s such as Darth Horuset’s, there are differences in our interpretations.
And thus it was decided that a combined interpretation was needed. One that sheds light on the meaning of the core principles and what significance they have for us as Sith.
We have been tasked to write such an Official Household Interpretation and as such we shall give our insights on it.
Peace is a lie, there is only Passion:
What it means for the individual Sith:
Passion is the source from which we Sith fuel ourselves. It is the Passion that drives us to expect the best of ourselves. To constantly push ourselves so that we may reach that passion in either its materialistic or philosophical form.
What one can gain, learn and understand from this is that Peace in and of itself is a term fabricated by sentient beings. A term which some would want to use to see themselves content at their current station. But in essence, that very term is in contradiction to everything around us. Understanding that Passion is everything, that it is the very core of existence, one takes the first step on the ladder.
What it means for the Sith order:
For the Sith Order specifically, Passion is what shapes our very existence. It is what drives up to move ever forwards, to learn the deepest secrets of the Force and bend it’s power to our will, to exert our ordinance over those only fit to be dominated, to spread our truth across the Galaxy and to destroy the Jedi and their decadent Republic that deny it.
Passion is everything. It is the core behind every move we make. And it is therefore that true ‘peace’ is never achievable for the Sith Order, for one that follows their Passions will never be content.
Through Passion, I gain Strength:
What it means for the Individual Sith:
Is the second line of the Sith Code yet the first that starts us off on the path to Freedom. Whereas the first line is arguably the most important as it contains the very core of what it means to be Sith, our Passions, it is this line that shows us the path we will have to walk in order to achieve them.
As one understands what our Passions truly are, one can see them manifested into strength. But it is dependent on that Character of which kind of strength as there are countless forms and shapes.
This means that we through our passion, gain the strength we seek. The strength to seek out to strike at targets and to have the strength, mentally and physically, to move oneself closer towards the next step on the ladder.
What it means for the Sith order:
Strength is the means through which we manifest our will and strive to fulfill our, ever farther reaching, Passions and desires. Yet Strength comes in many forms; Political cunning, strength at arms, astute intellect, mastery of the Force…. There are countless attributes and ways to describe strength and define one’s Strength and they are all correct.
Our Passions drive us to ever improve our Strength. And Strength is the path to Power.
Therefore every Sith within the Empire will always strive to grow stronger.
And only the strongest are able to exert their Strength over others, and it is those that rule.
The order’s reliance on Strength to achieve their passions ensure that only the strongest will rule in the Empire and that every generation of Sith will need to be stronger than the last in order to succeed their predecessors.
Strength is everything for the Sith Order. Our very empire’s structure is based on it. In order to achieve anything of note within the Sith order and Empire one needs to be strong. Strong enough to survive, and strong enough to rule.
Through Strength, I gain Power:
What it means for the Individual Sith:
Many conflate their personal aptitudes, prowess and abilities with Power. They believe that Power is nothing more but advanced personal Strength.
And it is those ‘Sith’ who will never be anything more than pawns in the games of their betters.
For when one understands these previous concepts, these extremely important teachings that the code offers us, one can reach further. It is through this strength you have obtained that you gain power.
Power is in some ways, like strength. However, in Power, also lies the means to dominate. Not just by the sheer physical will as some dedicate themselves to. But through diplomacy, through manipulation and other devious methods.
Power is the means to dominate, to exert -your- will upon others. As others, those stronger, try and do to you.
What it means for the Sith order:
One must understand that the Sith Code is not just a figure of speech and only speaks to Sith. The code is a contradiction, yet also a testament as to how the entire Galaxy works. The strong rule, the weak follow.
And it is Power through which we, the strong, subjugate and rule over those around us, to align their will with our own and make their highest priority fulfilling our desires and passions. Power is the means through which we permanently advance our own position and achieve our goals. It is a state of being, it is the authority we hold that elevates us about others, it is what ensures our own stature at the top of the hierarchy.
Through Power, I gain Victory:
What it means for the Individual Sith:
Understood the lines above? Good. This is your first victory. By understanding the lines above, you have by passion continued reading, through the reading of it, you gained an understanding of it, otherwise also known as Strength. And through that, you can now inform and educate others, asserting your dominance over them as their better. And through that, you gained a personal victory.
Using that as an example, you have through the Power achieved, gained the ability to have victory. You have asserted your power over someone, being one man or a group, and they acknowledged it. Admitting their strength was lesser. And you have brought yourself a victory.
It is, however, important to understand that Victory can indeed come in many forms. Physical, Philosophical, Political, diplomatic. The one thing that matters is that you have followed the code up until now. Now you assert yourself, you claim your victory. In whatever area, with whatever means necessary.
What it means for the Sith order:
Once a Sith possesses this Power and understands how to wield it there is nothing that can stop them from further expanding it. To achieve the victories they seek, to expand their influence, authority and dominion over all others, always advancing onwards in the Imperial hierarchy.
Through Victory, my chains are Broken:
What it means for the Individual Sith:
Victory. You claimed it. And you came out stronger and better. You lost the chain that kept you locked down in the position you were in before.
The removal of these chains, these invisible chains that bind you, is something you will ever truly achieve by a victory. Be that as it may, not just a Victory by the sense that you participated in a battle led by others and won… But that -You- achieved a Victory. Finally escaping the chains of being an acolyte is one for example. Yet, with the removals of the chains of being an acolyte, newer chains are laid upon you. The chains of being an apprentice. And so it continues. New chains laid upon you, while you continue to break them.
This is the goal of the SIth. Losing all the chains that keep us bound. While some will be removed for good, others and perhaps newer ones will emerge.
With every chain removed, you achieved a goal. And now newer goals emerge. Better, more rewarding? Perhaps. However, it is the duty of a Sith to always seek to remove their chains.
What it means for the Sith order:
With every victory, whether large or small, a Sith will overcome a challenge that previously prevented them from fulfilling their Passions. Yet as stated previously every chain broken merely reveals another.
It is the philosophy of continuing growth, with every Victory gained another new goal becomes achievable, more passions arise and we will have to rise to the occasion to Achieve Victory over that which would keep us from our Passions. To break our chains until none remain.
The Force shall Free Me:
The ultimate goal of the Sith. Be it for the individual or the collective order.
By following each of these steps on the philosophical ladder of the Sith code we will achieve our final step, our ultimate goal. Freedom.
Freedom we will achieve by following the guidelines of the Sith Code, Mastering the Dark Side as we advance further up the path to Victory so we may one day see ourselves free of any and all Chains and achieve true Freedom.
And it is with this that we reached the conclusion. Follow the Code. Obey the core principles, walk the path of Victory through Strength, and you will see yourself elevated.
