Mission Progression:
After receiving the mission briefing from a Lieutenant Carvus in General Tharne's forces I assessed the loadout of those deploying with me. I noted that there were two soldiers wielding Marksman Rifles, two wielding DLAs and two wielding Scatterblasters. I chose to divide the squad into two fireteams with one weapon of each type in each fireteam. As the soldier with the most experience after myself, Specialist Haldeen was given command of Fireteam B.
Upon deploying to the siege location we were informed of a Scout-Trooper, with a speeder loaded with supplies, who would wait for our signal to re-supply the entrenched 7th. I designated him as C-1 and ordered him to wait for that holo.
We advanced along the rock wall, using it and the shadows created as cover. I noted a squad concealed in cover 100m in advance acting as a rear-guard. Assuming there would be more than just one squad I ordered Fireteam A to sweep left and secure the flank whilst Fireteam B advanced to the squad and take them out.
On my mark I fired an ion grenade into the unsuspecting squad, eliminating their comms and ability to fight back or alert the comrades they were defending. Fireteam A located a hostile fireteam partaking in the siege against the 7th and Fireteam B advanced on the hostile squad. Both the hostile squad and fireteam were quickly dispatched with the other hostile positions, three squads of 12 using downed walkers as cover, remaining unaware of our advance.
I ordered Fireteam A to advance along the Northern canyon wall and begin suppressive fire against the Republic squads entrenched at the downed walkers. Fireteam B advanced, under cover of a smoke fired by myself, to the Southern canyon wall and began moving around to flank.
Fireteam A suppressed and drew attention from the hostiles and, once Fireteam B reached their position and executed the flanking manoeuvre, the fight was short. Some Republic soldiers attempting to flee were cut down by members of Leviathan and the entrenched 7th.
C-1 was ordered to rendezvous with the 7th and re-supply them. Specialist Lara of Fireteam B noted that one of the walker's could be restored to the point where the guns were operable but the walker itself was immobile. They were ordered to secure the position and restore the weapon systems. Fireteam A rendezvoused with the 7th. Prior to our arrival Ensign Telston lost thirty good men to the prolonged siege, they were down to their last ammo packs and would not have held out much longer.
The Ensign in charge of the 7th, Ensign Telston, informed me of a second wave incoming and released tactical command of the situation to myself as he and all his NCOs were heavily fatigued after several days of fighting without sleep. I had seven of his fittest men re-deploy to Fireteam B's walker to help secure the position. Their orders were to hide within the walker and lay in wait for my mark to open fire.
Fireteam A, along with the remaining fighting fit soldiers of the 7th, formed up along the ridge line.
A Republic column consisting of 1 tank, the one we encountered yesterday, a handful of commandos and approximately 50 regular soldiers moved on our position.
On my command the ridge line opened fire with the intention of drawing them in and away from investigating the walkers. It was successful. Before long the tank had advanced to fire on our position and exposed it's rear to the walker along with the whole of the Republic force.
Fireteam B opened fire on my command, immediately destroying the Republic tank and a great deal of their forces. The ridge line opened fire and the Republic were caught in an untenable position. They found themselves surrounded, taking fire from elevated positions on the front and back. Their armour destroyed and leadership being killed before commands could be issued. They were killed to the last man.
Ensign Telston lost two men men under his command, with another three injured, during this firefight. No member of Leviathan squadron was injured, and not a single soldier disobeyed or questioned a command.
When I was going to capture surviving Reps for interrogation Ensign Telston informed me that it was not required, they already had their intel.
We evacuated to the LZ and the 7th thanked us for the help before moving on for medical treatment.
Co-ordinates of the battle site have been attached.
Accolade Recommendations:
The Special Service Medal II
Specialist Riri'lar'aqia identified a downed Republic walker that could be partially repaired. The walker guns were used to not only destroy the tank but trap the Republic force in a killbox that gave them little chance to respond.
The Tactical Victory Medal:
The following soldiers fought, and retreated from, the Halting The Column mission and re-engaged the same Republic force today. Killing them to the last man. I recommend them for the Tactical Victory Medal with this in mind.
Mark of the Commando:
I believe I witnessed Specialist Haldeen fire a single shot into the jump-pack of an unsuspecting Republic commando, causing an explosion that killed him outright.
