S-Class Light Star Cruiser - The Herald
In this thread, you'll see The Herald, the S-Class Light Star Cruiser that has been assigned to Task Force: Leviathan our player Imperial Soldiers. The Herald will be used by the Imperials to get from point A to point B, but is highly customisable and upgradeable. Task Force: Leviathan is the priority in the command chain when it comes to The Herald, which means that even though there is a Captain in charge of the navy side of the ship, they defer to the orders of Task Force: Leviathan when pertinent.
The Herald can be used for small scale naval engagements with fighters or small stations, but it absolutely can be destroyed so Leviathan must look after their newest acquisition. The Herald can be used in small scale Fleet / Space Battle RP, with the more it has been upgraded away from the standard S-Class Light Star Cruiser the more powerful and unique it will become. Some of these opportunities are made obvious in this thread, but any of the seven hardpoints can be upgraded in various ways. If you have an idea of how The Herald could be customised, then check with an Officer OOCly before going through the IC process.
A small holorecording would play once the file was downloaded. A synthetic Imperial voice would speak, near entirely monotone.
"The Herald. A S-Class Light Star Cruiser fresh from the production lines of Sernpidal, commissioned specifically for Task Force: Leviathan at the behest of both Lord Kalkoran and Lord Saltaeon. The Herald is Leviathan's operational headquarters when deployed away from the Horuset Estate or the rest of the 142nd and as a result is equipped with all of the amenities, armouries and sleeping quarters necessary to outfit the entirety of operational Leviathan at a moment's notice. When not deployed, The Herald stays alongside Th'Asidra to allow quick and easy transportation between the Estate, the Flagship and The Herald.
Capable of small scale naval operations, the Corvette can take down an enemy fighter wing with relative ease and is capable of in-atmosphere landing on a planet's surface. This makes the Herald able to transport Leviathan directly to the mission objective with no need for a shuttle to bring the Task Force in closer. The Herald is fully crewed and led by both Captain Sahrah Zynn of Th'ssra and her second in command is Ensign Lillia 'The Sole Survivor' Augst of The Nemesis, the BSX-5 Dreadnought that went down over Artorias with Sith Kelsa aboard. Both Captain Zynn and Ensign Augst have been given clear instructions that their role is to facilitate the needs and orders of Task Force: Leviathan, ensuring that if Leviathan is deployed that the Corvette is not far behind. As a result, the Herald is an excellent vessel for making quick escapes due to it's firepower and ability to land on a planet's surface.
As with all S-Class Light Star Cruisers due to their older design but retrofitted nature, The Herald is highly customisable and upgradeable. From the Offensive Ordnance to the Defensive Armaments and Transportation Hardpoints, the Herald can be configured around the needs of it's objective which gives Task Force: Leviathan much flexibility to turn the ship into something that they can rely on when on deployment. Unlike other S-Class Light Star Cruisers, Leviathan can give the Corvette the time and attention to make The Herald unique and devastatingly potent at the role they assign it."
And as soon as it had started, the brief recording was done. Following, the file would go into detail concerning the Armours and Uniforms that are available at the Imperial Quartermaster.

Turbolaser Batteries:
"Turbolasers have been part of galactic warfare for as long as most history books go back. The S-Class Light Star Cruiser having a pair however, is a modern innovation. The one hundred and sixty five metre long corvette in ages gone past, would have carried a power source too small to manage the capacity of a pair of turbolasers atop it's spine. Yet as the Sith Empire returned to known space, it managed to outfit it's rarely seen corvettes with the capacity to take on ships of a similar size with gusto.
The Imperial Daxane Turbolaser MK VII is the most commonly available Turbolaser technology in the Sith Empire, on it's seventh generation of iteration. Capable of destroying most fighters with a single hit, the Turbolasers are intended for bigger and slower moving targets that can be pummelled away at with impunity. Used on most warships since the resurgence of the Sith Empire back at the start of the Great Galactic War, innovation has has seen prototypes of a successor eighth generation but these have not seen widespread production due to costs and time.
The modular nature of the S-Class Light Star Cruiser sees retrofits as easily accomplishable, if the right equipment can be found. Notably, the front Turbolaser could be replaced by a concussive missile launcher capable of space to space and space to ground targets if loaded with the correct missile munitions, such as bunker buster capable ordnance."

Laser Cannons:
"Laser Cannons are a natural progression for space combat to have taken in it's infancy millennia ago. Fast firing in a haze of crimson, Laser Cannons are a staple of warfare everywhere in the galaxy due to their ability to engage small and fast moving targets. The bane of fighters and bombers everywhere, the Laser Cannon is a relatively simply design and as a result Corvettes designated towards anti-fighter duty are capable of having many of them across their hull, ready to beat back fighter screens and patrol swathes of territory alike.
The Imperial Bosene Laser Cannon MK IV is the standard Laser Cannon used throughout the Sith Empire. No longer cutting edge, the Bosene has gone through two successors and the most up to date warships were equipped with the MK VI of the Bosene line of Laser Cannons. These warships however, did not return from the Second Battle of Corellia and as a result, Laser Cannon technology has largely stuck with the tried and true MK IV, where costs are somewhat cheaper than the MK V or MK VI variants. The Herald boasts 10 Bosene MK IV Laser Cannons and as a result, is capable of crippling a fighter wing entirely alone without a scratch.
The modular nature of the S-Class Light Star Cruiser sees retrofits as easily accomplishable, if the right equipment can be found. Notably, the Laser Cannons could be replaced in their entirety with many different types of technology, not just the Bosene line of Laser Cannons."

Defensive Armaments:

Shield Generator:
"Shield Generators are one of the more recent innovations of naval warfare. While still having been around for millennia, the technology behind them remains much younger than blasters, laser cannons or even Turbolasers in general. Each shield generator can work in tandem with other generators or alone to envelope a ship in a shield that will protect it from blaster based weaponry. Capable of absorbing a tremendous amount of damage, when a ship's shields start to flicker and wane it is likely that the ship's destruction is not far behind. Captains meticulously track the current strength of their shields with such in mind, to ensure that if the shields are depleting that the ship will get a chance to regenerate the shield whether from destruction of the enemy or retreating to safety.
The Imperial Aegis Shield Generator is military grade and suited for ships around the same size as the S-Class Light Star Cruiser. The first of it's line, the Aegis was created a mere 10 years before the Great Galactic War began and was the innovation that saw Imperial strategists want to refit the S-Class Light Star Cruiser into what it is today, instead of rendering the ship obsolete like what happened to the S-Class Heavy Cruiser. A second generation of the Imperial Aegis Shield Generator has been heard in whispers in the Sphere of Technology, but no prototypes are known of to the wider public.
The S-Class Light Star Cruiser's modifiability, sees the Shield Generator as entirely replaceable. Some crew have discussed the possibility of retrofitting in a pair of X-70B Phantom-Class Prototype's Cloaking Devices, but this was largely dismissed due to the ship then lacking shields and the outer coating of the vessel being armoured Duraplast and not a sensor-resistant material that would be needed to ensure the disappearance of The Herald from both sensors and to the naked eye."

Duraplast Armour Plating:
"Armour, goes back to the most ancient times of antiquity. Back when soldiers wore anything that was regarded as tough enough to stop the latest weapon of the enemy. Whether that weapon was a sharpened stick, a sword, a slugthrower, a blaster or even a turbolaser the concept of armour has not changed over the entirety of recorded history. The Sith have a history of armouring their ships heavily in previous Empires when shields was either not invented or not viable. As a continuation of that heritage, most modern Imperial ships remain heavily armoured where it matters to ensure that even if the shields do wane or the ship is committed against weaponry that can pierce the shields even when active that the ship itself will be able to fight on. This has not changed, for Duraplast Armour Plating.
Duraplast Armour Plating is an innovation of the current Sith Empire. Taking the tough metal and making it into composite overlapped armour plating across the S-Class Light Star Cruiser frame has rendered each Corvette capable of taking many concussion missiles and even a torpedo or two and still live to tell about it. During the Great Galactic War as the Sith Empire surged across the galaxy, Duraplast became the heavy armour of choice for many smaller ships as the Empire plundered enemy worlds for their resources. Engineers back on Dromund Kalakar were able to synthesis Duraplast in vast previously unheard of quantities and then retrofit many ships with the material as they came back in for repairs.
While Duraplast Armour Plating is considered heavy armour, ships could be equipped with either Light and Medium Armour instead of the heavy Duraplast, each trading off protection in favour of manoeuvrability to various degrees. Depending on what The Herald's crew and Leviathan have in mind for how the ship will be used, the ship could see a lighter armour being more preferable than the current heavy arrangement. The small part of the crew that talked about replacing the Shield Generator, also talked about replacing the Duraplast Armour Plating with a Sensor-Resistant Alloy that would barely protect the ship but in conjunction with a Cloaking Device that would need to replace the Shield Generator, could theoretically render The Herald as a Cloaked Corvette, hidden to both sensors and the naked eye. This small part of the crew's idea was dismissed as outlandish, but it is still something that is talked about amongst the wider crew often enough to come up now and again."

Transportation Hardpoints:
|
S-Class Hanger:
"Shipboard Hangers are used for many different roles depending on the ship itself. From housing fighter wings, to bomber squadrons and flotillas of shuttles capable of transportation, a hanger is nothing but versatile to it's very core. Housing smaller ships inside those that are larger is a mainstay of naval warfare, enabling carriers to bring starfighters to the frontlines without the need of individual hyperdrives to transport the smaller craft. Fighter Screens used to contend with enemy fighters and keep bombers away from vital targets is a common tactic that without hangers, would be severely limited.
The S-Class Light Star Cruiser's sole hanger, runs entirely from port to starboard. With two exits and therefore two entrances, the pair of MK VI Supremacy-Class Starfighters are capable of deploying extremely swiftly from one exit each and are capable enough to assist the Corvette with destroying a fighter squadron or intercepting a craft that would outpace the Corvette itself. A single Imperial Assault Shuttle also makes it's home in the S-Class's hanger, ensuring that if for some reason the Corvette is not capable of ferrying it's soldiers or cargo directly to where it needs to be that the shuttle can act as an intermediary to get what needs to go, where it needs to be.
The Herald's Hanger largely cannot be changed, but it's contents can. The Hanger is laid out in such a way that four bays are available. However, shuttles, bombers and gunships each take up two bays leaving only fighters as taking up one bay each. This sees The Herald as currently using two of it's four bays for two fighters and the other two bays for the singular shuttle. As a result, the shuttle could be exchanged for a bomber, or the fighters could be exchanged for a gunship. Many of the crew have talked at length about what type of ships they'd want to see inside the hanger with some even going so far to say what class of fighter, bomber, gunship or shuttle they'd want inside the hanger."

Hyperdrive:
"The Hyperdrive, the single greatest invention that has graced the galaxy. Little can be said of starships without a hyperdrive being a pivotal feature of the ship. With a hyperdrive, a ship can jump to lightspeed and enter hyperspace, going several times faster the speed of light and travel across the galaxy in days and weeks that would take sub-light travel centuries and millennia. Civilisations without access to hyperdrive travel are often considered primitive by the galaxy at large and as a result, hyperdrive technology is so widely spread that it has mostly stagnated since it was invented tens of thousands of years ago.
Hyperdrives are modelled on a 'class' system, where a Class-1 Hyperdrive travels to a destination at the 'base' travel time depending on how far the destination is. A Class-2 Hyperdrive, would take twice as long to reach the same destination as a Class-1 hyperdrive and likewise a Class-3 Hyperdrive would take three times as long as a Class-1 hyperdrive. Most military ships of the Sith Empire operate on a Class-2 or Class-3 Hyperdrive, whereas civilian ships usually operate on a Class-4 or Class-5 hyperdrive. Hyperdrive units are normally equipped with a back-up hyperdrive in the Class-10 to Class-20 range that runs on a separate system and is installed elsewhere on the ship to ensure that if the main Hyperdrive fails, the back-up hyperdrive can slowly get the ship to the nearest civilised system for repairs. Hyperdrives can be synced across fleets, so that all ships travel at the same speed as the slowest hyperdrive and as a result all reach the destination at the same time.
The S-Class Light Star Cruiser's Hyperdrive is a Class-2 Hyperdrive with a back-up of a Class-15 Hyperdrive. This puts it at the forefront of the Sith Empire's hyperspace speeds. Class-1 Hyperdrives are exceedingly rare, with them prized as possessions of the obscenely wealthy and rarely used in standard military vessels as a result. Both the main and back-up hyperdrives could be upgraded, with a Class-1 Hyperdrive being a hotly contested commodity and an upgraded back-up Hyperdrive saving days or weeks of travel if the main hyperdrive did ever malfunction or suffer too much damage."

Sub-Light Engines:
"Sub-Lightspeed Engines are the mode of transportation for a starship when not jumped to lightspeed with the hyperdrive. Sub-Light Engines are used alongside repulsorlift technology for take-offs and landings, are used to travel through the atmospheres of planets and in systems when exiting orbits and heading for hyperlanes. As a result, sub-light engines are a facet that makes a ship, a starship. Invented outside of historical memory, Sub-light Engines are pivotally important from everything from transports to military vessels to ensure speed and manoeuvrability of the vessel at hand. Unlike hyperdrives where the technology has stagnated, Sub-Light Engines have seen various improvements even in recent centuries and as a result has seen bigger ships capable of in-atmosphere landings and more manoeuvrable vessels overall.
The S-Class Light Star Cruiser is equipped with the Imperial Topza MK III Ion Drive, capable of in-atmosphere and deep space travel alike. Taking fuel from the onboard power generator, the Ion Drive is capable of running for as long as the power generator remains active. Capable of speeds that can outstrip most civilian transports and most larger military vessels, the Topza MK III is the reliable workhorse of many Imperial vessels across the entirety of the Sith Empire. Manoeuvrable to an extent, the MK III Topza was designed more for speed than agility and as a result in-atmosphere landings and take-offs most be done with care and diligence. Likewise in combat, the Topza MK III is most unlikely to be able to evade masses of enemy offensives, unless from large armaments at extreme ranges.
The Herald's Sub-Light Engines can be upgraded. While no known successor to the Topza MK III is in the works due to resource limitations in the Empire, other lines of engines exist in the galaxy from various sources. The Fondor made Scise line of Sub-Light Engines favours agility and manoeuvrability over speed to the extreme while the Nar Shaddaa based ship engineers have equipped smuggling vessels with top of the line black-market modifications that see increases in both speed and agility, at the cost of reliability. The crew have often talked about how smugglers seem to always have excessive engines and hyperdrives, with a hint of jealousy that they are 'only' using standard military grade of both."

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!
|
"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."
((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
