RIDGESIDE: AN OVERVIEW
Compiled By Sith Vipion

INTRODUCTION

Ridgeside is a difficult target. Our enemy is competent, and they successfully delivered a counter-attack that led to the destruction of outpost Rennar in order to deny them their forward assault.

Do not mistake the difficulty of this assault for an unlikely victory. As Sith, we possess power that the Republic have never truly faced at its full potential. We possess tools and abilities that they have never seen before We possess a significant amount of intelligence against them, and we possess the full might of the force.

Most of our enemy’s physical defenses rely upon the assumption that our tactic of overwhelming force will not change. In order to take this victory, we will be using tactics that the Republic have never seen before. We know their weaknesses. We know their strengths. We will intelligently and surgically strike at these strengths. We will intelligently and surgically take advantage of their weaknesses. We will do this until our victory is assured.

Before now, we were holding back…

RIDGESIDE OVERVIEW: STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
: ... :
: ... :

Strategically the Republic can only realistically retreat over narrow sets of bridges to the north and north-east without crossing their trench lines, and they do not have anywhere to easily fall back. They are in a good position to defend and push back, but a poor position to retreat and reinforce. In order to do so, they will have to either navigate winding canyons or risk it across a large bridge. Reinforcements will not have a terrain advantage, and will have to cross either through a refugee camp or across a set of narrow canyons and bridges in either direction.

Their starfighter base and anti-air will one of our biggest issues, to be handled by the ritual. This is the western point of interest (in layman's terms, the yellow dot to the west of the map). The eastern point of interest is an old space elevator, and its preservation will be essential.

There are five layers of trenches. The first two layers are shoddily built (though slowly improving) while the last three are solid.

The trenches are dotted with anti-tank mines and sensors, and these will need to be sufficiently dealt with in order for us to pass. Apprentice Kaleehi discovered this personally, but he is lighter than a tank.

Ridgeside possesses the same war machines that they had in Rennar- bolraida walkers in the back, firing to hit our machines, then Manka-class walkers, and then their hellfire tanks in the front. The bolraidas are able to destroy large vehicles over great distances. They are three-legged cannon towers that can shoot very far and caused much of the destruction of our tanks. They have several dozen of these. We have less. They also posseess numerous assault droids.

The canyons to the north appear to host commandos, and these are a threat to our Sith and Imperials to the right. They have so far come in from the west. They had at least one tunnel in and out of the sensor array, which is the yellow dot on the map.

A labelled map of potential enemy routes.
  • Point 1 is a pair of pathways to enemy territory. To the left is a series of winding canyons. To the right is a bridge. These points mean going through Rennar and all the way around to defend Ridgeside. The main risk from this area is likely commandos from the ravine or smaller, lighter units. They will not be able to reinforce Ridgeside from this area directly but they may be able to attack Rennar and cut off our assault, or at least rattle us. Defending this point will be critical in order to prevent sabotage of our lines or assault.
  • Point 2 is a bridge across a canyon. In order to reach it, it the Republic have to first climb down their own plateau that gives them the high ground, loop around, and cross it.
  • Point 3 is another bridge, though slightly more supported. Reinforcements are likely to attempt to come in from this area but will have to deal with a choke point to get in, and will require a climb upwards to the plateau they have reinforced.
  • Point 4 goes through a refugee camp and is difficult to navigate. It possesses similar theoretical risks as point 1.
  • A final point is the sensor array; the yellow dot to the west of ruined Rennar. There is a tunnel that commandos have entered and exited before here. This will require sentries at minimum and a quick potential response to ensure that they do not enter any assault and begin to sabotage our efforts.

UPDATE: POST-RITUAL

The AA of Ridgeside has been largely crippled (down to 20%), and we have likely halved their bolraida walkers. Further scouting will allow us to have a more accurate view of the situation.
The first couple of lines of Republic trenches have been destroyed.

RIDGESIDE OVERVIEW: PREPARATIONS AND SABOTAGE

COVERING THE ENTRANCES:
Any assault we make will involve guarding the NORTH-WESTERN ENTRANCE OF RENNAR from encroachment by commandos, using a mix of assault droids and squads of soldiers. The same will go for the EASTERN ENTRANCE OF RENNAR as they are likely hiding commandos amongst the refugees. We will do the same for the SENSOR ARRAY, as we expect them to try and sneak in through their tunnel.

GRAVITY SENSORS:
By using tectonic probes both in the air and in space along with orbital sensors, we are trying to determine the location of the gravity well projector by finding anomalies.

MODIFIED TANKS:
Spec Rosetti, Ensign Rees, Leviathan squad, and the salvage initiative have been preparing modified vehicles. See shield and tank document, see mission report about salvaging parts from Rennar. See deep salvage operation and Rosetti’s rumour: https://www.horuset.com/showthread.php?tid=992

SWARMING THEIR REINFORCEMENTS:
We have monstrosities created by Sith Hazlem prepared to enter the refugee camp along with assault droids in case they attempt to reinforce Ridgeside from Largona, pushing them from the south to the north. We will be able to spot this during the ritual attempt as we will be doing aerial recon.\

SAPPING AND MINING:
We have dug an extensive series of tunnels towards their trench lines, and we are able to use them for a variety of forms of sabotage. These have been dug by Sith Sarias’ sithspawn and our logistics teams, and will allow us to wreak havoc amongst their trench lines and cause confusion to keep the enemy busy.

KEEPING THEM BUSY:
We have kept them in a state of readiness. We have ensured that they cannot easily sabotage Rennar by sending regular squads, and we have established checkpoints to the east and north-west entrances of Rennar. Our defense plans have expanded.

BIOHAZARD:
((See aodh’s rumour for this))
Sith Hazlem released a bio-weapon into their midst- Imperial Lymphocyte Neutralization Virus, hiding mosquito eggs in the effigy of several corpses sewn together. This will harm the immune systems of the enemy, leaving us with the ability to weaponize milder pathogens than normal to great effect with frag grenades.

SITHSPAWN:
Sith Sarias will place some of her Sithspawn a different location and have them project the dark side to split the attention of the enemy during the ritual, and keep them fearing after a ritual. They will be used in the assault, details TBD.

ARBITRATOR SABOTAGE:
Details TBD.

RIDGESIDE OVERVIEW: INITIAL ASSAULT IDEAS

AUREK: RITUAL

Apprentice Rhave's Ritual: Link Here

The ritual will require the support of Sith and Imperials to protect the casters from harm.

We want to preserve the space elevator and the pathways in and out. We will mix in real starfighters so that regardless of their answer we will benefit.

We will support the ritual by mobilizing INFANTRY + SHIELD to deploy to maintain it.

Ritual practitioners will be disguised as Imperials in order to get into position, hiding their lightsabers in modified blasters along the way, along with those who are guarding them. The vanguard will protect the Imperials and Sith, and INFANTRY + SHIELD will be prepared to support this vanguard militarily upon the approach of enemy forces.

BESH: INFANTRY + SHIELD

A flexible plan of assaulting and departing as is necessary, arriving in protected lines of infantry and covering our approach with sapper tunnels and bombs in order to deploy our shield. From behind this shield we advance, firing at their bolraidas from a decent vantage point, setting the anti-vehicle mines off with rubble in order to avoid losing our vehicles, and slowly encircling them with fire.

WE WILL NEED:
  • Almost everything listed as resources.

We mobilize enough troops to make a probing assault believable, enter west through Anek, hide behind the rocks, and move west quickly under cover of both the assault and the ritual. We cover our approach using a smokescreen to hide our approach if necessary and use the cover to bring our shields and troops forward to attempt this.

We will bring many of the forces from the west in Anek using the cover of chaos from our miner/sappers, and act quickly to place our shield up. We will hit them.

We retreat when the shields start to overheat or if this plan does not work. We will prevent this using Sith Tutki’s cooling suits and throwing cryo grenades around the outside of the tanks at a safe distance.

CRESH: SAPPERS + EMP

Apprentice Tavos, the salvage initiative, and the Kalkoran engineer team are in the progress of building a massive EMP bomb. We were hoping to save this for the power grid around the Interdictor, but we can weigh using this.

UPDATE: We can make two.

RESULT:

Link to Rhave's Ritual here
Link to "Morale Meeting" briefing

"The ritual was deployed with the participants outlined in the document. In addition, sapper tunnels covered the approach of the team and our shields covered us. We deployed troops and assault droids to cause chaos and disarray, and Sith Hazlem released her gunclaws after the fact to cause damage to morale and physical damage.

This plan was originally leaked to the Republic, and they attempted to assassinate Apprentice Rhave to prevent it. When this happened, he faked his death- we swapped his armour with Sergeant Geskar's and staged a pureblooded body in repose. This allowed us to use this ritual and maintain it as a surprise to great effect. We called a "morale meeting" for the briefing, revealed our plan, and executed it.

The results were devastating and effective. We lost 3 fighters at most. We confused the AA with the ritual until they began to stop firing before we hit them with our real fighters and guns, reducing their AA capabilities to 20% capacity and roughly halving their bolraidas.

Casualties were minimal.

Apprentice Rhave's ingenuity and skill is specifically credited for our success in this strike."

TAKING RIDGESIDE ((MAY 13, 2023))

  • Apprentice Zartilda - Town
  • Apprentice Nivalis - Town

Other:
  • Apprentice Krassus - Artillery leader
  • Sergeant Rennab - Call Signs, Artillery

In the wake of Rhave’s ritual, the final trap was ready to be sprung. With most of Ridgeside’s AA and half of their trenches destroyed, we were prepared to make our final moves.

The EMP was placed in the no-man’s-land between Ridgeside and the former outpost of Rennar. Due to the distance that Rennar’s wasteland provided, we did not have to concern ourselves with hitting ourselves. Underneath the Republic lines, the sapper tunnels, dug by Sith Sarias’ sithspawn and our logistics teams had dug were primed with explosives- conventional, non-electronic ones. Our assault team and shield tanks were prepared, with artillery droids prepared to pick off what was left of the enemy’s own.

We detonated Apprentice Tavos’ EMP as shown. It exploded with a wide radius and and followed up with the detonations of our sapper tunnels in order to collapse their trench lines and cover our rapid approach to Ridgeside outpost. The Republic, in this time, ordered a retreat, and our assault was largely a follow-up where we destroyed or disabled as many of their vehicles as possible. We protected our approach using the rock formations from Anek and hid our artillery behind the shield tanks that Leviathan squad helped drive up. Apprentice Krassus identified targets and helped coordinate from the back lines. Each team took their successive areas, using those who can see through the force to avoid mines and advance as we went, and we bulldozed their trench lines as we moved in. We used Sith Vi’kas interceptors to strategically hit weapons that our artillery could not reach.

In the end, we lost 90 soldiers, with 160 wounded who were returned to service. Most of them were hit in the Republic’s finally artillery barrage to cover their retreat.

In no particular effort do I bring attention to the following people:

The contributions of Leviathan squad in particular should be noted. I was not there to witness their actions in the final push taking Ridgeside, but I wish to see them commended for their achievements throughout this. They have been incredibly important to this effort;
  • Ensign Rees’ shield tech,
  • Specialist Rosetti’s tanks,
  • Sergeant Rennab’s command,
  • Corporal’s Haldeen’s medical capabilities,
  • Corporal Kienix’s quick shots with his battle droid,
  • Corporal Dew’s boldness in battle,
  • Specialist Athun’s sniping,
  • Sergeant Geskar’s assistance in disguising a faked death,
  • Private Trisdane’s cohesion,
They have served us well and each of these soldiers have made the empire proud.

Of the Sith, I particularly point to the work of:
  • Apprentice Rhave’s work with the ritual,
  • Apprentice Krassus for his contribution to our assault plans with our artillery,
  • Sith Hazlem for her propaganda and biological warfare,
  • Apprentice Tavos for his EMP,
  • Apprentice Varrixon for her grids,
  • Sith Sarias for her Sithspawn and the tunnels,
  • Apprentice Charsette for blocking many bolts for me,
  • Lord Saltaeon and Sith Zevasa for their assistance both as envoys and as commanders of different forks of the assaults,
  • Sith Leive’s asset contributions and droids,
  • Apprentice Nivalis' skill in both protecting others and killing the enemy,
  • Sith Vi’kas for his interceptor drones,
  • Apprentice Daxze for assisting with the vantage points,
  • Apprentice Faelice for healing our wounds.
  • Acolytes Suruthya and Araki for fighting well in these battles as acolytes,
  • the members of Viper squad led by Apprentice Roi for assistance in the sky,
  • the Arbitrators (Sith Zynn, Apprentices Vayek/Emlar/Kaleehi) for their work with recon,
  • The logistics soldiers led by Apprentice Madros for their building materials and contributions.

RIDGESIDE: DEFENSE PLAN (WORK IN PROGRESS)

Ridgeside has excellent vantage points. Every approach onto Ridgeside can be protected by us from three sides, and we can spot them approaching from kilometers away.

Other factors to be added from this document including considerations, done by Esme Roi:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a0Ej...sp=sharing

Gridlocked for artillery:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mdFE...sp=sharing

ITEC walls being built by Dutrosu:

NOTES:
  • Each barricade is covered with kv-1 droids and possesses an eweb, both for ITEC and Ridgeside.
  • Anti-aircraft guns are dotted around the outpost.
  • Yellow diamonds have long-range artillery positions and vantage view points with views to the north and west. Front ones turned into field guns to fire off of the ridge, to be replaced as necessary.
  • Starfighter port is filled with both Vi'kas interceptors and normal fighters. Regular aerial patrols, maintain aerial supremacy of ITEC site and canyon.
  • Shield tanks hidden in shuttles in Anek, to be flown as necessary up or down
  • Charges placed to cover choke points.
  • Alarms to be raised if barricades are pushed back on all three points of entry into Ridgeside.
  • Dozer tanks kept behind but prepared to knock over barricades in a forward assault
  • Ridgeside currently possesses 100 deployed artillery battle droids (Saltaeon) and 30 (Leive) with waves backwards to replace old ones.
  • Sensor array tunnel is covered in traps and sensors in order to provide us warnings of an assault. Anything triggering the sensors besides them working as usual will trigger an alarm.
  • Generator placed back behind ridgeline behind barricades for shield.
  • Backup generator placed in sensor array.
  • Dozer tanks at high points in order to drop rubble of broken vehicles onto enemies
  • We have eyes onto Salara and the approaches from here. We can see them coming.
  • Flare guns and EMP grenades given to soldiers, exist to hit the walkers.
  • Scout walkers are a priority target in order to prevent Republic from being able to aim their artillery.
  • As much of our equipment as possible in Ridgeside is EM shielded.
  • EMP ready to be deployed in case we are overrun, adjustable size, in order for us to return fire.
  • Flare system and physical lines ready in case of comms jammed, colour indicating entrance and number of flares indicating orders.

How this works:

Ridgeside has three methods of entry, each of which will be protected by ewebs, vehicles, droids, barricades, and artillery. Some of Sith Leive's droids have been converted into field guns, covering the ridge, and Lord Saltaeon's droids are positioned in a similar manner as well as positioned further back in order to do a widespread bombardment of approaching Republic troops. Using the advantage of our range and higher vantage point, we will make it exceedingly difficult for the Republic to even cross the choke points and killboxes created, but should they somehow make it across they will run into minefields, barricades, vehicles, dropped rubble, more field guns, droids, artillery, soldiers, and ewebs.

Reinforcements are positioned in protected areas, including reinforcement guns and vehicles. An energy shield to cover Ridgeside is deployed, and a small group of shuttles are held back with our shield tanks to deploy them wherever the Republic seem to be pushing in. We can shoot them from a distance, we can shoot them when they are here, and we can shield ourselves where needed. We have sensors covering the canyons, we have barricades covering the ITEC site, and we have ways to bombard them from afar should the Republic break through.

They will bleed for every inch of ground they attempt to take.

RIDGESIDE: TOPOGRAPHY/CANYONS

Getting in and around Ridgeside involves navigating multiple choke points and ravines that are occasionally crossed by bridges. I have outlined various rock formations and canyons below. This is not an official diagram, but it gets the point across.

The gist of this is that any green line is difficult or impossible to traverse, leaving the areas between as the ones that can be navigated by vehicles or soldiers. The ravine in the middle fits starfighters and smaller ships at points, and occasional commandos, but it is vast, wide, and essentially vertical.

In short, we have to treat these lines- whether they be rock formations, ravines, or walls- as things that we need to go around.

The yellow line to the west represents a rocky overhang that covers the northern pathway below it.
With this in mind, there are multiple bridges to traverse (noted in orange):

Understanding these factors helps to understand where we can and cannot go, and where we are vulnerable.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
