The History of the Synthetic Crystal

"The story of the synthetic lightsaber crystal can be traced back to the Great Hyperspace War where the Sith were defeated and guided into hiding by the Sith Emperor. In hiding and with all known primary deposits of naturally formed crystals secured by the Jedi the could no longer create lightsabers through conventional methods, not without risking discovery. In their exile the Sith began to experiment with geological compressors, devices that could replicate the conditions of crystal formation, and discovered that it was possible to create crystals that were considered more reliable and powerful than those that are naturally formed. The new process required slight alterations and a prolonged meditation on the forming crystal, resulting in the new crystal being red unless otherwise modified. With no other source of crystals and red being the most prolific, the crimson blade became synonymous with the Sith Order and an accepted tradition; eventually phasing out the previous Sith Warblades and Protosabers."

"All synthetic crystals are formed in a Geological Compressor which is built into the lightsaber forges that can be found both in Th'Asrida's meditation chamber and the ruins of the estate. The very centre of the workbench has a small plinth where the required materials can be deposited and taken into the bowels of the machine. Once the compressor has finished the crystal, or whatever is created in the event of a failure, will be lifted from the bowels of the machine by the plinth."
"Lightsaber crystals are not created from nothing and the forge must be fed. Carbon, commonly coal dust, is the primary ingredient for the lightsaber crystal to be formed. Attempting to create a crystal with nothing more than coal dust will be a difficult task as it would lack any immediate bond to the creator, making it harder to exert your will over during the formation process. Anything of personal value can be added to the compressor in order to increase the personal collection, a small bone hair clip, your own blood or even jewellery. If it is important to you, it will improve the bond and chances of success. Close the lid to the compressor and allow the machine to begin working, the process will be long and take place over multiple days."

There are a series of dials on the side of the machine which allow for minor adjustments and calibration, the dial settings for a red synthetic crystal are: Aurek = 73, Besh = 415, Cresh = 876, Cherek = 342."
"Physical ingredients will not be enough, a synthetic crystal must become a reflection, an echo, of its creator. As the machine activates it will thrum and come to life, ancient sigils glowing and the machine hungering for force energy, the crystal hungering for identity. The forming crystal will draw from the emotions, the memories and the ambitions that you present and grow into a reflection of what you project. The crystal will resist you, it must be dominated by your truest self. Expect the crystal to form, break away and form back stronger, over the course of several days - growing stronger with each passing moment. Domination is the goal, but that cannot be achieved if you exhaust yourself. Pace your efforts, remember how long the fight will be.."

Disregard everything but the one crystal that you will forge into perfection. Once the machine opens this crystal will likely be buried within it's failed siblings.
