The Homework of the Sith Lorekeeper

#3
Naga Sadow - by Acolytes Aljo and Tashha

Naga Sadow was a master Sith alchemist and Dark Lord of the Sith, who is most known for taking the Sith Empire 1370 years ago to the point of galactic domination in the Great Hyperspace War.

Born on Ziost, Naga Sadow was a hybrid between human and sith pureblood, with the only notable traits he retained from Sith blood being his red skin and the bonespurs/barbels on his face, compensating this by boasting of being part of one of the purest Jedi lineages, which have fled several thousand years ago after the Second Great Schism, making their way into the Sith space, conquering and interbreeding with the Sith species.

His early life can be marked by the rule of the great Dark Lord of the Sith Marka Ragnos, yet during that time, Naga Sadow was witness to many crises which the Sith civilization. These ranged from economic and technological stagnation, a political scene where the old aristocracy was replaced by warrior-type figures on their quest for power, all unaware of the danger which the Galactic Republic posed for the Sith Empire at that time.

His mentor and master was the Sith Lord Simus, who guided Naga Sadow throughout his life, even after Simus was killed in a duel with Mark Ragnos, using Sith powers to keep his head alive in a jar. Eventually, Naga Sadow became one of the then members of the Sith Council.

As Apprentice Raeniu Vipion said, "Naga Sadow was, in my personal opinion, a very important Sith in our history, his knowledge on Sith Alchemy was supreme and I, one day, hope to obtain such an intricate knowledge of Sith Alchemy. However, I am sure there is that tarnished part of the fact that he is half-blood."

Unlike many of his peers, Naga Sadow's views were quite progressive. He had little regard for Sith traditions, and preached an expansive ideology, which at that time was opposed to what the Sith Empire stood by. He had built his powerbase which wasn't comprised of the already enslaved populace under the Sith, but of outside cultures, given his expansionist views. Being in control of the world Khar Delba, he used it as a decoy and constructed his stronghold in secret, on the dark side of the moon Khar Shian, where he could continue his research into the dark arts in secret.

As a visionary, Naga Sadow had a great ambition which pushed him to crave not just the title of Dark Lord of the Sith, but to also escaping the Stygian Caldera, the nebula which was home of Sith Empire, and expanding the Empire throughout the entire galaxy. He rebeled and did not shy away from opposing the Sith traditions which he believed were the root of its stagnation. To him, his conservative peers were deemed "backwards thinkers", a great example being his rival Ludo Kressh.

Towards the end of Mark Ragnos's rein as Dark Lord of the Sith, Naga Sadow grew to desire the position for himself more and more, believing that he would be the catalyst for change, using the death of Mark Ragnos to be his chance to claim the title. During the grand funeral procession on Korriban, in the Valley of the Dark Lords, Ludo Kressh was leading the processions. Naga Sadow arrived late and as Kressh told him to turn around as he tainted the memory of the great Marka Ragnos, Sadow simply defied him and would use that occasion to declare that he will claim the title of Dark Lord of the Sith. This lead to a duel between the two rivals on the threshold of the tomb, which was to be a duel to the death, yet interrupted only by the spirit of Marka Ragnos, which came with a warning, that the Sith would need to fight the correct battles or else be destroyed.
The events which followed were the arrival of Starbreaker 12, the starship of Gav and Jori Daragon, who Sadow deemed to be the key for expanding the Sith Empire, even though Kressh wanted to kill them immediately. The Sith Council would meet on Ziost to decide the fate of the two, and despite Sadow's efforts to keep the humans alive, it was decided to kill them. Naga Sadow made a plan to free the two humans, which had worked and would also spark chaos among the Sith Council, which had blamed the Republic. Using the fear of the Republic, Sadow once more stated that he wanted to claim the title of the Dark Lord, and would now also have support from several council members. This lead to a war between Sadow and Kressh, which would eventually have Sadow as the victor, by using his cunning wits, subterfuge and great planning. After this, Naga Sadow would set his sights on waging war with the Republic, which is well-known as the Great Hyperspace War.

The events of the Great Hyperspace War are far too detailed for us to summarize, however here we can quote Apprentice Trakaton Kalkoran:
“Naga Sadow’s war, the Great Hyperspace War, saw the abandonment of Korriban, the purge of Sith Space and the eradication of the Zuguruk caste of the Sith. It saw the near entire extinction of the Warrior Caste, the Massassi, and the decimation of the Sith who had blood of the Kissai. Because of the Apprentice of Naga Sadow, we were led into a war that saw us brought to the edge of eradication. If Sadow had followed the example of Vitiate and built actual warships instead of relying heavily on his Force Illusioned Warships, then the First Sith Empire may have had a chance. He was foolhardy, rash and arrogant. A terrible leader, yet undoubtedly a great, if not traditionalist, Dark Lord.“
Naga Sadow had managed to gather an extremely formidable fighting force comprised of ships, ground troops and war beasts, all gathered from the different corners of the Sith Empire. His war plan was to lead from his Sith Meditation Sphere, and being the heart and mind of the attack, and would also use Sith magic to conjure illusions of warships, to gain a psychological edge, making it seem that his fleet was greater than it was in reality. His efforts would first be on the Koros system, while another part of his forces would strike in the heart of the Republic.

This, is where we believe that Naga Sadow had begun to already make mistakes in his plan:

Not just by splitting up his forces, and using illusions to increase the apparent size of his fleet, but by also entrusting Gav Daragon, who at this time was an apprentice to Sadow, with being in charge of one of the warships. As Sadow was in his meditation sphere, in the Primus Goluud system, focusing on his illusions, he would be found by his human apprentice who had now been reunited with his sister, and would betray his master. Gav found Sadow's meditation sphere and shot at it, causing Sadow to break his concentration and, as a house of cards, his illusions across the galaxy would begin to shatter, marking the start of his defeat. The Sith forces were defeated in the heart of the Republic, at Corruscant, as well in the Koros system. Eventually, Naga Sadow would find himself with no other option than to retreat, and before doing so, aboard the battleship Corsair, he used the Force to trigger a massive supernova in the star Primus Goluud, to cover his retreat, which also killed his traitorous apprentice.

In conclusion, Naga Sadow's has left his mark on the Sith legacy, and even though his views were progressive, his ambition and cunning are traits which all should take note of. He may have failed in his war against the Republic, having to retreat and lick his wounds, but his attempt only inspired the generations of Sith to come, and his achievements in Sith magic and Alchemy are worthy of appraisal.

What one can only do is to learn from the mistakes of our predecessors, and to take their achievements as examples of what one can obtain if they are willing to put their efforts into fulfilling their own desires.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
