The Art of War: "The Assault on Tython." An essay by Madros Dutrosu

The Art of WarThe assault on Tython:An essay by Madros Dutrosu

Introduction

In our empire, the sith usually fill the role of commander when it comes to the military, They tell their soldiers what to do or they give commands through the highest-ranking Imperial available, quite common in these situations the sith make their man fight the battle while they do their important task of leading them. For my essay, I wanted to look at a battle where Sith and Imperials worked together to achieve victory, and where they required one another to succeed.

This is why I landed on the topic of the Assault on Tython. The second time our great Empire dealt a massive blow to not only the republic but at the core of the Jedi. Just like at the battle of Coruscant, where Lord Malgus sacked the Jedi temple. Forcing them to relocate to Tython.

Pre-History

After the sacking of the Coruscant temple the Jedi relocated to Tython, this at the time was unknown to the empire, and Emperor Vitiate’s goal was to find the Jedi Homeworld. It was Darth Angral who discovered the planet’s location while he was on a personal vendetta. He was planning on destroying the planet using a superweapon which he had mounted to his flagship: "The Oppressor.” His plan was stopped by an unnamed Jedi Knight.

Initial Assault
The initial planetside assault was launched from an area called the Gnarls, A large force of imperials stormed the beaches of the Gnarls led by Darth Nox and the Emperor’s wrath personally.

They met heavy resistance from Republic troops defending the area which caused a crossfire. The republic was facing heavy firepower and casualties were high. The only thing holding the Imperial forces back was heavy artillery fire keeping them from advancing. They quickly located artillery targeting arrays which had to be destroyed if they wanted to advance. These arrays were key targets and heavily defended by republic war droids and soldiers.

After the destruction of all three targeting arrays, our forces were able to advance safely, Their next objective was waiting: "The shield generator.”

The shield generator

The empire quickly moved towards the shield generator which was blocking them access to the Jedi temple, along their route they faced an estimate of 3 republic squads.

Once they arrived at the generator they were faced with a challenge. Defending the generator was Major Imos and a squad of republic commandos, together they caused destruction amongst the imperial forces, but they all inevitably fell to the combined might of the sith and imperial soldiers present.

The battle Continues
It should be noted that during the ground assault in space the imperial fleet was waging an assault of their own. One Harrower-class dreadnought and two Terminus-class destroyers were facing off against the Republic’s fleet which consisted of; "at least one Valor-class Cruiser and two Thranta-class corvettes.”

With both the Harrower and the Valor carrying their own complement of starfighters. A brutal space battle continued with a couple of starfighters even crashing into the battlefield on the planet, one such occasion was captured by imperial forces while they were advancing on the Jedi temple after the destruction of the shield generator

Advancing on the Jedi temple
After the destruction of the shield generator, the strike team had to pass through a narrow valley, before entering the temple grounds. The valley at its worst could only have two to three soldiers walking shoulder to shoulder. As the soldiers marched through the narrow valley a surprise attack was launched by a native species known as: "The flesh Raiders.”

They wreaked havoc amongst the imperial soldiers, due to their size, strength, and because of how close they were able to get to the soldiers who excel at more medium ranges.

The Emperor’s Wrath and Darth Nox were quick to fend the attackers off using their combined force to make quick work of the savage Raiders. Whether the Flesh Raiders were working with the Jedi is unknown, a common theory is that they were defending their own home.

The fight for the Temple

When they arrived at the temple grounds they were met with heavy resistance from the Republic’s forces who had set up several AA guns around the grounds and were defending it with their lives, a lot of lives. A massive battle followed, with the Empire slowly advancing on the Anti-Air weapons, destroying the emplacements as they advanced.

There are no records of how long the battle lasted but when it was over the entire temple ground was covered in; bodies Imperial and Republic alike, smoke and general destruction all around.

The outer constructs of the temple itself had endured quite some damage during the fight, the main entrance was completely covered in smoke. Soon after the empire had gathered its strength, a figure emerged from the smoke, then two, then three, and more were to come. It was Jedi master Dentiri with a legion of his personal battle droids.

Like many others before him, Master Dentiri eventually fell to the might of the empire. Now nothing stood in their way to conquer the Jedi Temple.

Nothing except for countless Republic soldiers and Jedi.

The conquering of the Jedi Temple

The fight was hard and brutal, blaster bolts and bodies were flying; left and right.” There seemed to be no end to the massacre, both sides received heavy casualties but the empire pushed on by the strength of their leaders who’s kill count was through the roof at this point.

It should be noted that the Temple was heavily damaged, some of it intention some of it happening during the firefight, The empire captured a lot of footage for advertising purposes.

The final push

The fight eventually made its way to the second level of the temple, where only one obstacle stood in their way before they could access what they came for: "The Jedi archives.” The Imperial forces were blocked by an energy barrier that was powered by power generators on the other side of the building.

The imperial forces rushed to the generators slaughtering anything within their path, the sith leading the operation were at this point so enraged that they could carve up an entire squad on their own, and so they did. At the generator, the final fight was fought against the last of the Republic’s troops. All who were foolish enough to fight the empire Perished and the generators were destroyed.

At the archives stood only one being Jedi master Oric Traless. Master Traless fought for and with his life as the Emperor’s wrath and Darth Nox battled him, the master almost brought the building down to stop their attack. But ultimately he was defeated by the wrath’s mastery of the blade and Darth Nox’ immense power in the force.

Conclusion

In the aftermath, the Jedi archives were raided for all the data that wasn’t damaged. The assault was declared a success by the Dark council. What they didn’t know at the time was that the Republic would soon launch a similar attack on the Sith homeworld of Korriban.

In the battle there was never a clear tactic used except certain shock tactics aimed at overwhelming the Republic, instead, the Empire had clear objectives for their assault which in the end helped them. The imperial forces were led by Darth Nox and the Emperor’s wrath.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
