Mission Report: Wingmaw Hunt, by Acolyte Valorin

#1
MISSION REPORT: WINGMAW HUNT

FROM: Acolyte Cathryn Valorin
FOR: Neophyte Aregra Kalkoran
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUBJECT: Recap of the assignment on Dromund Kaas

ACCESS RULES: Accessable for everyone.

BRIEFING
Neophyte Kalkoran briefed me and two other Acolytes at the edge of Dromund Kaas' jungles to capture the native wingmaws roaming the location. Acolyte Kiran Terius and Acolyte Flavian Polaris both have done vast research on the wingmaws aswell as their habitat. We were given utensils and equipment such as caves, ropes and nets to capture the wingmaws with. The Neophyte has set us a deadline until nightfall.

PERFORMANCE
Due to the fact that Flavian and Kiran are both of a more sturdy build than I with my lithe physique, the two males were carrying the heavy cages uphill whereas I took care off the light-weight tools. We were in accord of using the safer but notably longer route which proved nonetheless challenging due to it resembling a slippery, muddy slope. Perambulating the dangerous jungles, we eventually came across a glade. Flavian took it upon himself to climb up trees and scout out the area for our prey or predators looking at us as prey.
I quickly assumed command over my group and made multiple suggestions:
1) To kill the animal Flavian had spotted and use its carcass tugged away in the cages to lure and entrap the wingmaws.
2. To pin and stretch the nets in between the trees and entrap the wingmaws in the mesh.
We were quickly in agreement but a bit overzealous in setting up the traps too far away from the wingmaw's breeding place. This lead to us dawdling away valuable time because Kiran and I had to run back, detach the nets again and catch up with Flavian who remained at the entrance of a cave. Entering the cave, we once again set up the traps along the rocks and trees and I instructed my peers to chase the wingmaws into the nets.
Flavian made for an exceptionally good bait. And I am not even meaning that ironically, he enraged the wingmaws that much that they swooped down on us. Soon, we found ourselves cornered by the creatures we were supposed to hunt down.
I managed to overwhelm the wingmaw attacking me, confining it to the cage Kiran took along. Kiran and Flavian had less luck unfortunately. One of the wingmaws yanked quite roughly at Flavian's head and Kiran was wrestling with a wingmaw at the ground - his back being ripped open by its sharpened claws. Despite being in pain, Flavian rushed to Kiran's rescue. I was reluctant at first because I knew that our time was running out.
However, I certainly would not be strong enough to carry three cages filled with panicing wingmaws and the hunting utensils back to the platform. Kiran was saved and together, we left and returned to Neophyte Kalkoran.

IMPRESSION
Although we were not entirely successful - because we only brought back 3 instead of 4 wingmaws - my peers and I collaborated quite well with one another. The role allocation was quite clear from the start, there was no petty squabbling that would have delayed the task. The others were always open for my creative suggestions whereas they proved to be quite the capable warriors in fighting with the avian beasts. I was more than surprised that Flavian had a meltdown when we returned. He usually makes such an introverted and indifferent expression at me. Seeing him falling to his knees and burst out in tears shocked me quite a lot.
Regardless, I could definitely see myself working with them together again if desired by a superior.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
