Introduction:
This is an essay on the techniques and competence of torture methods for Neophyte Leive, the Seeker of Horuset. Within this document we will discuss the different types of torture, which are most effective, how the goal of torture effects which is most effective, and so on. This document is the accumulation of my own knowledge, extracts from the Archives and the opinions of my superiors.
Methods of torture:
There are a myriad of techniques to use in the process of torturing an individual, spanning far and wide very much depending on the situation. Some of the most widely known ones consist of acts against the body:

  • Skin Flaying
  • Bone breaking
  • Limb/body part removal
  • Blunt force trauma
  • Cuts and so on
  • Waterboarding
  • Kneecapping
  • Insertion of a needle through the fingertips
  • Force shock, wound, and other torture capable force abilities

However there are likewise a list of rather unconventional methods of torture such as:
  • Attacks on the mind, be it with the force or otherwise
  • The use of harmful, painful or hallucinatory drugs
  • Dehydration and famine
  • Torture via extreme temperatures
  • Sleep deprivation
  • The use of animals, such as small to medium sized creatures.

These gruesome torture methods can likewise be combined with technological terrors like torture probes and droids, or some of the more simpler assets like a torture rack and confinement cell.
One of the more interesting aspects I find myself pondering on regarding torture is the question of how far and to what extent can torture be considered torture. For example, is an incredible amount of humiliation considered an effective method of torture? With the mental toll taking effect.
I've been thinking personally on some more unique arts of torture. One I've been contemplating on is absolute isolation. I've read that when the senses aren't neglected the psychological detriment is extreme. Lack of any sight, sound, touch and so on for prolonged hours can drive even those most iron willed people insane. One of the other techniques is related to specifically force users. It is said that force users can experience the death of their loved ones via the force even despite distances, thus is it an acceptable though difficult method to use this against them. Letting them experience such dread whilst locked from a long distance. I suppose the only usable version of this to non force users is the torture or killing of someone they know or love to induce a reaction in front of them.

Uses of torture:
Talking about purely the methods of torture without addressing -when- and -why- to use them would be remiss of anyone taking interest in the art.
The first use of torture I'd like to embellish on is that of data extraction. Should a particular set of information or data be required from the subject, mental attacks that might leave such a thing incapable may not be the best course of action. Unless you are sure that the recipient will be capable of coherent thought afterwards. Likewise, it is probably a bad idea to remove the tongue and/or hands of those you're wishing to extract from. But that does not make them unavailable, attacks of the skin and nails are very much possible methods. From my current understanding attacks via the force are very effective in extracting information that lies within the subjects brain. In fact, I've heard rumors that certain force abilities can go as far as to delve into the very mind of the victim to look for a specific thing. Though whether this is true or the extent of these abilities I do not know.
The second use of torture to detail is that of punishment. This is the point at which you are simply trying to inflict as much pain and distress as possible. In which case I'd personally recommend a mixture of torture methods should you wish maximum effect, like combining inflicted cuts with the use of force wound or extreme temperatures to leave a very impactful effect. Currently, force shock and very low degree's of lightning are common practice to inflict a high amount of pain, muscle damage and spasm, and burns. An effective though simple and overused method.
Last Notes:
There are a few extracts on the torture practices of ancient civilizations. Some detail razors put between the eyelids to cut their eyes everytime they blink. Some detail incredibly small boxes to stow the victim and heat up. Some detail the use of impalement in which the victim takes three full days to be able to bleed out, slowly falling on the stick. However these uses are rarely used in modern society due to their rather...extreme, primitive and gruesome nature. I'm curious though as to whether a lot of these acts fall under the list of war crimes. Or if any act is ever -too- much for torture or too little and if so, by what definition. Inquiries I will have to ask those more experienced than me.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
