Form VI: Niman

Introduction
The sixth form of lightsaber combat is known by many names given by many individuals for various reasons. Niman as its very first adoptation by the Legions of Lettow during the First Great Schism. The Way of the Rancor, for the deceptive intelligence of the hulking creature. The Moderation Form, due to its integration of the five previous forms to create something without strength or weakness. The Diplomat's Form, due to how many amongst the Jedi and Sith that study this form only do so in order to keep their time and focus on studying the myseries of the force and diplomacy over lightsaber combat. And finally, the Trickters Form, due to the broad skillsets that many amongst its practicioners possess and often utilise deception and creativity to emerge victorious. I have yet another name to add however. The Path of the Changebringer. There is no doubt in my mind that many amongst you are immediately disgusted at the notion and find that its name suggests towards heresy. History
The Legions of Lettow were the very first to set the foundation for the lightsaber form as we know it to this day. Its origins trace back to the first years of the establishment of the Jedi Order on Ossus. This sect were entirely focused on the study of the light side of the force, yet few amongst them instead desired to study the superior aspect of the force. The Dark Side of the Force. Controlled by fear the Jedi Council on Ossus naturally denied such practice, and so those few broke away and started an academy on the planet of Lettow.
These individuals formed their own sect and its Acolytes named themselves the Legion of Lettow. It was here that they had the spiritual, physical and mental freedom to practice the dark side of the force. With the knowledge that the Jedi Council would eventually retaliate out of fear for the growing power of the Legionnaires. The Legion adopted the original Jar'Kai style and named it Niman, where it was henceforth used to combat the war that came to be recorded as the First Great Schism.
It wasn't until after the unfortunate defeat of the Legionnaire's that Niman was further developed and refined to what became the sixth form of lightsaber combat. Ever since many amongst the Jedi, their fallen Dark Jedi and the Sith have adopted this form for its relaxed bladework so that they may focus themselves on the study of the force or diplomacy. It was these Jedi and Sith that soon set the standard for the Niman's unfavourable reputation as many if not all of its practicioners were either lacking in their combat prowess or found it too demanding to gain mastery over the form.

A fallen Jedi turned Sith Lord who showed the galaxy the strength that Niman possess when used by a dedicated practicioner. To use any form of combat it is paramount that its mindset, its philosophy is understood. For one can never truly grasp the core, skills and techniques of any given fighting style if one cannot understood why it is done in the first place. This is especially true for a lightsaber form that appears to be so focused on the sin that is modulation on the surface.
A common misconception is that Niman is and should only be practiced by those not gifted in the art of lightsaber combat or not focused on such practice due to its lack of strength, and therefor must be the form of weakness. But, as proven by practicioners such as Exar Kun this is far from the truth. Form VI: Niman incorporates moves and manouvres from forms I, II, III, IV & V with its focus and encouragement on creative and deceptive use of the blade, force and environment in order to deal with any situation no matter how dire it may be.
Because of this a fundamental understanding of the aforementioned forms would be paramount to reaching true mastery of the form. With this in mind the form consist of a fundamental formula, six core tactics and three subsets for each, each of which can and should be combined to emerge as the victor in any given situation. Lead: Persuasion. Your will lead and have your enemy chase you into his own sudden, unforeseen end.

You swallow up the opponent and alter the reality in which combat occurs. Avoid: That which your enemy cannot see is a danger. When you are not there, you can not be struck down. Coordinate: Change. You do not defeat anyone, your enemies defeat themselves against you.

The fourth core tactic of the Trickster's Form. It is based on the physical element of air. You shall not engage your opponent, they shall engage you. Dervish: Ferocity. Your offense might not be the strongest, but it does not relent. Ever. Heavy Hand: All or nothing. You merely observe and remain on the side, but when you get involved you do not know the definition of holding back. Staccato: Patterns are to be exploited and disrupted. You strike with random rythms and speed.
Overpower:

Offensive Rush: Comitting to your own decision is paramount. All who stand before you, shall fall beneath you. Crush: The defense of your enemy is your offense. Sit on your opponent and crush them beneath your might. Leverage: To possess power for the sake of possessing it is pointless and doomed to fail. You dont need to possess more power, you merely need to use it better.
Withstand:
The sixth and last core tactic of the lightsaber form. It is based on the physical element of earth. You never waver. You endure the attacks of your enemy until the time is right to retaliate. Bunker: Your defense is absolute. Your blade is a foil to your enemy's most simple and difficult action against you. Trade: Sometimes you need to lose something in order to gain something. Trading your hand for their head. To take a hit should be used to exploit your foe. Hide: The shadows offer protection. Your enemy cannot strike what is already behind them.
These are all of the core tactics with their subsets. They should be used and combined with one another to form the best suitable plan of action regardless of your situation. Some combinations are superior to others, yet each serves a purpose. Those that practice the Path of the Changebringer should forever be vigilant against compromise. Moves & Manouvers
The basic opening stance of Niman was wide and open, with the blade held away from the body in a one-handed grip, the blade angled upwards, back and directed towards the opponent. The off-hand was folded across the chest and both feet evenly placed, straight beneath the shoulders. This stance has the practicioner in a balanced position in which they can keep their opponent at bay with their blade whilst be ever ready to defend or strike through the force.
Another stance originates primarily from the third form of lightsaber combat, Soresu. It featured the blade held up at head-height in a two-handed grip with the blade angled upwards and slightly in with the dominant foot placed backwards. This stance allows the practicioner to step in with strength to parry, block or deflect an incoming attack with little to no effort.
A third pre-established stance of the form was a two-handed low guard. With the hilt held at waist height in a two-handed grip, the blade held back and to the side angled downwards with the feet close to one another, with the dominant foot just in front of the other. Whilst this allows the practicioner to be ready to react, the focus was at being ready to lash out throug the force and parry an incoming strike, instead of going on the lightsaber offensive.
Due to the lack of integrated bladework and focus on adapting through creativity and deception, the established techniques of Form VI: Niman included the usage of the force heavily. Most commonly telekinetic and lightning related abilities are utilised. The first technique is known as the 'Draw Closer' technique, which involved telekinetically seizing an opponent and pulling them into your blade. The second is effectively the polar opposite of the first and is known as the 'Pushing Slash' technique, which involves slamming the opponent with a force push after scoring a hit. A third technique, which is only commonly seen amongst the Sith and is known as the 'Shocking Pass' which involves unleashing a force shock at the opponent after dodging an attack.
Exotic Weaponry
Due to the freeform in which Niman can be expressed, refined and tuned to the creativity and fighting style of the practicioner with relative ease it is only natural to see it just as easily adapted to weaponry outside of the standard norm. Likewise as mentioned earlier, Niman originally comes from the adaptation of the ancient Jar'Kai dual blade fencing style. As such it is a perfect gateway into learning how to dual wield. But, it goes much further. Usage of the Saberstaff, Lightsaber Pike, Lightwhip and many other lightsaber designs can see themselves integrated into the sixth form of lightsaber combat with enough dedication and practice. It is only your own lack of creativity that shall prevent you from succeeding.
Conclusion
Form VI: Niman is both a trap for those without dedication and a great weapon for those with it. It inspires its practicioners to be creative, to deceive and to utilise the force in ways that no other form of lightsaber combat does. Yet at the same time it requires intense training of body, mind and spirit to become a true embodiment of its core tenants.
