Mission Report: Assault on Mosanek

A small holorecording would play once the file was downloaded. The voice of Harridax Geskar would play across the recording, somewhat haughty and rehearsed. It was very clearly a recording made for multiple uses.

"Leviathan. Ensign Trisdane. The Conservancy, my lords. Listed below is my report of the recent assault for you to look over at your own leisure. As de facto leader of Strike Group Sword, I wanted to ensure our perspective becomes known."

And as soon as it had started, the brief recording was done. Following, the file would go into detail of the titled report.

Stage 1 - Operation Stalking Vornskr:

Our briefing for the assault on Mosanek included a brief high level overview of the plan that would be used to take Mosanek. This plan was named Operation: Stalking Vornskr, with the high level details being a fast and unrelenting assault using an 'artikarza' method devised by a Sith Lord to be highly mobile and overwhelm the enemy defences with speed. The ultimate objective was the full taking of Mosanek. By the end of the briefing, Sith Zevasa was in charge of Strike Group Spear and I had been put in charge of Strike Group Sword which came with the following compliment of troops:
Leviathan:

Fire Team Aurek - Sergeant Harridax 'Coach' Geskar (IB-CT), Corporal Crix Rennab (IS-AW), Corporal Carys (IL-ST)
Fire Team Besh - Specialist Corey Vask & Private Rosetti Miriadas ( Both in an Experimental Walker)
Fire Team Cresh - Corporal 'Honour' Kienix &  Private Ilyana Korith ( Both in an Experimental Walker)
Fire Team Dorn - Apprentice Rekhen, Apprentice Emlar.

Supporting Units:
50 KV-1 Melee War Droids
100 Soldier Platoon

As such, Strike Group Sword was deployed in the following fashion. The KV-1 Melee War Droids were placed infront of Fire Team Aurek, with Besh on the left flank, Cresh on the right and Dorn mounted on the IB-CT and IL-ST. The 100 strong platoon was placed at the rear, ready to fill in gaps in the line as they emerged.

We were transported to the Landing Site east of Mosanek and prepared ourselves for the offensive. Ensign Trisdane gave me a copy of the plan before he put me in charge and as a result, on the ride over I poured over it extensively to make sure that I followed it to the letter. As we got to the landing site, the Artillery from Mosila and Outpost Varath opened fire on Mosanek to soften up the positions for the assault.

Stage 2 - The Chokepoint:

Once the artillery began, Strike Group Sword intended to take it's route towards Mosanek as per Operation Stalking Vornskr, however we were diverted and took the highlighted blue route to achieve it instead. Strike Group Spear, took the green route towards the walls of Mosanek. When Strike Group Spear hit the bridge and Strike Group Sword was going down to circumnavigate it, the Republic defenders began opening fire from their positions on various ridgelines. As a result, we were contested the entire way through this phase of the battle from the moment the Strike Groups split up.
We pushed forwards, but a minefield took out half of the KV-1 Melee War Droids before another order could be given to them. The Minefield was as a result largely cleared and did not slow our assault, though we experienced pressure from a Republic Bolraida-Class Walker. Leviathan held formation, assisted Strike Group Spear with clearing the Bolraida and we kept moving while under extreme small arms fire.

Reaching a position where we could see the way up to Mosanek, a relatively open part at the bottom of the ravine-like chokepoint that the approach to Mosanek was on it's eastern front, the Republic deployed two wings of FT-8 Star Guard fighters, totalling 14 in number. During such time, they implemented Close Air Support (CAS) tactics to take out Fire Team Besh's Walker with a shot to the rocket pod and strafed our formation at least thrice, before our own air support was deployed to counteract their manoeuvre. Notable feats during this time is Cresh taking down fighters with the Experimental Walker and destroying the tower watching over Mosanek's entrance before a crashing fighter took out the leg of the Walker and as a result, rendered both Walkers Combat Ineffective for the rest of the battle. As a result, Leviathan was reorganised to be:

Leviathan:
Fire Team Aurek - Sergeant Harridax 'Coach' Geskar (IB-CT), Corporal Carys (IL-ST)
Fire Team Besh - Corporal Crix Rennab (IS-AW), Specialist Corey Vask & Private Rosetti Miriadas
Fire Team Cresh - Corporal 'Honour' Kienix &  Private Ilyana Korith
Fire Team Dorn - Apprentice Rekhen, Apprentice Emlar

We pushed further on, linking up with Strike Group Spear which saw an influx of Sith Zevasa's Sith and under fire, pushed up the ramp to Mosanek's entrance. By this point, the entire compliment of KV-1 Melee War Droids had been destroyed, though they had crossed the gap to melee the Republic lines ahead of the Sith arriving and making the taking of the entrance greatly easier than it would have been otherwise. The 100 strong platoon was still combat effective, with a large majority of it's soldiers still fighting.

Stage 3 - Inside Mosanek:

Within Mosanek itself, both Strike Groups took to the streets and cleared out Republic soldiers as we found them. Besh supported Dorn in clearing out a building on the left flank and during such, a Republic Officer made themselves known. I can only relay accounts I have heard, as I did not see this myself from within the IB-CT, but seemingly the Officer emerged ontop of a building, made themselves known, and then detonated bombs that had been planted all across Mosanek.

The bombs flipped both the IL-ST and the IB-CT and killed soldiers that had been brought into Mosanek to help secure the area. Leviathan and Dorn were rattled, but still combat effective despite the bombing. With only Corporal Rennab's Scout Walker still operational, which he had given to Specialist Vask, Leviathan moved to take up positions on the western side of Mosanek while Strike Group Spear took quick accounts of Mosanek itself, before the push for the POI to the South-West that had been identified as an airfield.

During this time, the Sith worked as a team and un-flipped the IB-CT. As a result, I got back within it and turned it back on. The gun was misaligned and the engine was making a churning sound, but it was operational. As a result, Leviathan was reorganised for the final time and now looked like the following:

Leviathan:
Fire Team Aurek - Sergeant Harridax 'Coach' Geskar (IB-CT)
Fire Team Besh - Corporal Crix Rennab, Specialist Corey Vask (IS-AW) & Private Rosetti Miriadas
Fire Team Cresh - Corporal 'Honour' Kienix &  Corporal Carys & Private Ilyana Korith
Fire Team Dorn - Apprentice Rekhen, Apprentice Emlar

Stage 4 - Pushing the Airfield:

With the KV-1 Melee War Droids inoperable, Leviathan's Vehicles down to an IB-CT and a Scout Walker, both Strike Group Sword and Spear joined forces for the final leg of the assault. A plan was devised to centre the formation on the IB-CT, with Besh and Cresh out on the wings protected by Sith while Dorn remained front and centre with the IB-CT to keep it from any overt fire.

We pushed down towards the airfield and met a token force of resistance. Turrets on the walls and soldiers atop them. The Strike Groups made short work of the defenders with minimal losses, however before we could claim the airfield another Republic Officer made themselves known and blew it up entirely. Such ended the assault on Mosanek.

Assessment and Commendations:

My Lords, Leviathan leadership sirs, it is my belief that while much went exceptionally well with the mission there was some oversights that cost us greatly. Namely, the unaccounted for minefields and the enemy aerial support. The enemy knew to strike at our droids and armour to try and unfurl the fist of the Empire, but were ultimately unable to stop our assault despite their every effort to do so. This resulted in losses that in the future, we will need to avoid by having set in stone countermeasures to known Republic tactics.

Corporal Crix Rennab performed exceptionally as part of Aurek and when Besh lost their walker, was able to assume command of Fire Team Besh and lead it throughout the battle with a degree of independence to make a flexible fighting force. As a result, I am personally writing him a Written Commendation towards his promotion to Sergeant. He will make an excellent squad leader.

Corporal Kienix held Cresh together admirably, and was able to operate efficiently within parameters throughout all three stages of the assault. Cresh was instrumental in getting Leviathan through the first stage of the assault, past minefields, Walkers and enemy fighters and was as combat effective as it was, due to Corporal Kienix. As a result of such, I am also writing them a Written Commendation towards their promotion to Sergeant.

Corporal Carys was by my side throughout the first two stages of the assault, their IL-ST alongside my IB-CT and as a result, I saw much good soldiering from them. However they came into their own when their Landslider was rendered inoperable and during the final stage of the assault, was capable of using their specialisation to take down an enemy fighter with a single rocket from a launcher during the Republic's attempted escape. As a result, I am recommending they receive the The Special Service Medal II for their efforts.

Specialist Corey Vask was part of Besh throughout the operation and was originally part of the Experimental Walker crew before it was upended and then later became the sole operator of Corporal Rennab's Scout Walker. Throughout use of both vehicles, Specialist Vask was instrumental in providing heavy fire on enemy positions and even used the Scout Walker to breach and clear a building within Mosanek by unloading through a door. As a result, I am recommending they receive the The Special Service Medal I for their skills.

Private Roseetti Miriadas was also part of Besh alongside Specialist Vask and operated the Experimental Walker with them. The Private displayed a level head and seems to have fit in with Leviathan near immediately. As a result I am giving her, her required Written Commendation towards Specialist. She is still requiring the other two criteria to become a Specialist.

Private Ilyana Korith was part of Cresh. They performed well throughout all phases of the battle and I look forward to seeing more of them in the field.

While unconventional, I believe it appropriate for me to call out both Apprentices Rekhen and Emlar for their stalwart nature. Both are great examples of Sith Warriors working alongside Task Force: Leviathan.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
