What can I do about it?
OOCly: A 'Crisis' is a new form of event style/RP inspiration formed out of Operations but with a twist and slightly more member (That's you!) control in the outcome. Every few weeks a new crisis will appear on the front page with some IC info about a planet and a link to the person who has made the crisis. When this happens people are able to come up with little missions and tasks to go and do during free RP to influence this story, almost like a mini campaign, with the setup discussed with the creator and the result fed back to them.
ICly: Your characters would easily and clearly be able to find this report of a planet in crisis, reacting to it as they wish. Now, obviously those restricted from going about as they please (I am looking at you acolytes) will need to get permission to go on some of these (We may host these on Dromund Kaas or Korriban in the future on a less than planetary scale) which obviously will need to be done ICly. But, once our characters have found a way to go to wherever the crisis takes them this time, they just go! And the RP is carried out, with the result being recorded.
But who GMs/Guides it?
OOCly: You! This is not an operation where people use a message board to sign up and a designated group is put together like a dungeon finder. Instead this is meant to inspire in the moment free RP that you just go and do. It will require everyone to input on the results and the help one another create a story/mission as partners and equals within the loose boundaries that the creator sets from which a story directed by you guys can be forged. The outcome on the crisis will be dependant on what you guys do (or don't do) which is why at the end you need to feedback the results of the mission. Of course this means we want you guys to be realistic, we are not all powerful nor do we win every time (The Sith loose all the time as it is because we are the bad guys) and so if all we are getting is endlessly five star performances then the process will be reexamined because, as is always the way, this is about story, it's not about being the 'best'. At the end of it all the crisis will be replaced with a conclusion of sorts where people can publically see what happened as a result of all the little missions that took place across the guild.
I still don't get it
That's okay! These take time to get used to and are new - seemingly - compared to anything we've seen before on the server. Essentially we are taking mini-stories and giving them to you to finish. We are trusting you to be serious and use these as times to explore character development, train, create a compelling story and have fun. These are NOT opportunities to recruit legions of NPC followers and sadly those who write these crises will be watchful for that because that is never supposed to be the outcome from these. Need an example? Don't worry, we've got a (very simple) one! I will post the OOC comments in the normal white, like this, and the IC ones in red, like this!
Crisis on Earth!
Keith notices that on the site that a new crisis is up!
The planet of earth has become infested by a nest of Killiks, the humans there plead for help from the Empire! Bob, the Sith apprentice sees this when scouring the Horuset servers.
During a day of free RP Keith is RPing on his apprentice and notices he and a few other apprentices are a bit bored and have finished all their chores.
Bob, the Sith Apprentice, suggests he and the other apprentices go to earth and see if they can scout out this new Killik hive to help out the local defence forces. And so Bob, the Sith apprentice, does a bit of research.
Keith talks to whomever made the crisis and gets a few more details on the planet as well as how one might get into the beginning of their trip. The creator feeds back as well as giving what info could be gotten ICly.
Bob, the Sith apprentice, and the others go to Earth and begin scouting out the killik hive. However, OH NO! Bob, the Sith apprentice, disturbed some of the killiks and the group had to leave before they could finish taking scans and surveillance of the whole area. They then passed this information onto the moff working to eradicate the killiks and returned home.
Keith gives the creator the OOC run down of everything that happened and the creator records this, using it to influence the outcome. When the time runs out on the crisis the creator writes a conclusion and that is posted until the next crisis begins!
Obviously the example is a very simplistic and non-lore friendly one however it is simply meant to give you a better idea of the style, not the quality, which will be had in droves. And that is everything, if you have any further questions please feel free to send them my (Alex) way as I was the mind behind this, and good luck to those of you taking part! A more IC document with information about the current crisis and its state of being right now can be found below.
