Cybernetic Project: SPYder

#1
Objective: The objective here is fairly simple and similar to the one displayed in the previous project concerning the fitting of optical cybernetics on wingmaws, with some key differences. Firstly, the difference in the selection of species relates to the intended environments these beasts are tasked with inflitrating. On one hand, wingmaws are more fitted to aerial surveys: The mapping of larger plots of land from above for the purposes of detecting enemy encampments, movements and installations. The spiders on the other hand are more fitted in inflitrating residences, ventilation shafts and other small spaces, being of a much smaller size and having the ability to climb onto walls and ceilings. They are also infinitely more quiet than a wingmaw. So, in short, the intent of this project is to retrofit spiders with optical and audio-recording cybernetics for the purpose of inflitrating interior spaces.

The Prototype: Only one eye was replaced in each spider, in a move to not only maintain a low cost in each procedure, but also to minimize recovery time and result in the smallest electronic signature possible for each specimen. This time, an audio link was also established within the optical cybernetic, allowing for the interception of audio. Two different versions were created; The first allowed the video and audio link to be transmitted to a remote terminal within a radius of 100 meters, although my knowledge is not advanced enough to make this connection encrypted and such will have to be developed in the future in order for the audio feed to be safe from being traced back to its source. The second version is able to have the audio/video feed be stored within a datachit located at the back of the arachnid's head. The second version is a bulkier one, with a slightly larger electronic signature, although it allows for the creature to have a greated degree of independence from its handler and provide flexibility over the distance of handler and spider. The working prototype from the last cybernetic project was used as the basis for this one, as I strived to miniaturize the cybernetics even further. I believe that, at this point, I have reached the limit of how small a cybernetic of this kind can be, as I had to create over twenty different prototypes before a single one of them worked. The version bearing the datachit for the recording was perhaps the most challenging endeavour I have undergone thus far, as the storage device comes in a standard size and has to be sufficiently concealed within the spider. The solution I came up with included a partially exposed port on the base of the spider's neck, that allows for removal of the chip, and works to at least partially contain the electronic component. The plasteel parts are spray-painted with a matte, non-reflective black paint, so as to avoid light reflecting off the cybernetic and giving away the spider's location. Regarding the eyes themselves, inspiration was taken from antique chronometers in the fitting of the gears and cables within the constrained space, as well as my own experience in making spring-loaded knife contraptions.

Subjects: The species chosen for the fitting of the cybernetics and subsequent training are the common Kaasian jungle spiders. There is absolutely nothing special about these large arachnids, not in ability nor coloration, and that's why they were chosen for this purpose. A spider large enough and with enough base intellect to be controlled through the Force, but unassuming and common in number. I shall not go through the number of failed instances, as they are too many to count, focusing instead on those that succeeded.

SPDR-1: Adult female, common coloration, larger in size

SPDR-2: Adult male, common coloration, smaller in size

Implantation:

SPDR-1: The subject was implanted with the version of the cybernetic containing the datachit, given her larger size. Subject has since fully recovered and has successfully gone through a molt, without any problems regarding the cybernetics thus far. Subject is responsive to Force Bond and training, with simple commands being learned thus far such as staying on a given place or crawling on the ceiling and seeking shelter. Time will tell if more complex commands can be learned.

SPDR-2: The subject, being smaller, was implanted with the version of the cybernetic relying on a remote link. Subject is currently recovering, but has already responded positively to Force Bond.

Ongoing Crisis
The Republic Marches amongst lit fires!

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

After the Republic liberated Pollus from Imperial influence, Anx Minor was devastated by I.T.E.C.’s nuclear mining and lingering Sith presence, while the Kesmere Ridge remained largely intact, enabling the Republic to steadily infiltrate and influence its powerful corporate systems. On Tertiary Kesmere—the largest hub—three megacorporations dominated: Oriyn Prospecting discovered resources, Kessdyne Resource Group extracted and profited from the capital Vethar’s Reach and its Ciivic Council, and Haeltor Maritime handled off-world transport. Beneath the façade of economic growth, however, The Republic secretly aimed to turn Tertiary Kesmere into a strategic launch point for operations in the Northern Territories. Contacted by Moff Vayen Korr, the Marshalling Prefect of the Northern Territories, the Pentarchy of House Horuset took on the job of delaying the Republic's actions. With preperations laid it culminated in a strike planetside lasting only two weeks to ignite anarchy. Acting covertly to sabotage Republic progress, they destabilized the region, leaving chaos in their wake as corporations collapsed under their own deception and local anti-corporate guilds rose up—unaware of the Empire’s hidden hand behind the unrest...

((OOC: Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state will determine how strong the Republic will be in given areas area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
