Assignment: The Cold War

#1
The Cold War

The Cold War. A rather interesting and pivotal moment of the Sith Empire as a whole. A time when the Sith were now superior to the Jedi. A time when the entire Empire cheered and celebrated The Galactic Republic's humiliating defeat and misery. For it was a time when the Jedi were viewed in negative light, as the reason why The Republic lost The Great Galactic War. The Sith were worshiped and cheered on while The Jedi were accused, threatened and attacked. Both verbally and physically. For the Republic lost two thirds of their worlds, and the Empire gladly took them, and became the superior force in the Galaxy...At least at the moment.
But alas, those great moments would not last forever. Many Sith such as Darth Malgus frowned upon this victory. Wondering why the Sith Empire did not ravage and drive the Galactic Republic into oblivion, just as the Galactic Republic did so a thousand years past. Many Sith were angered because of this, The Empire itself however was at It's strongest it ever could be at the time. The Republic however - was facing collapse as the worlds slowly turned against It. It was left defenseless, The Capital was held by the Empire, and the Republic's citizens were disillusioned with the government because of this. Meanwhile the Sith Empire was united for a time, as It laughed and mocked The Republic's failed experiment of 'democracy', their very own people turning against It.
The greatest humiliation however, was the actual Treaty of Coruscant that the Republic signed. With it, came many problems. The destruction of the Jedi Temple, the quick and easy push of taking Coruscant itself was a humiliation to the Republic in itself. For truly, how could such a very well developed world and even worse - Capital - be taken so quickly, so ruthlessly without too much effort? it was a sign for the Republic that change was needed, for they would fear another Treaty of Coruscant again. Only this time, Coruscant would be obliterated. And only ashes would remain. The same kind of Korriban that lay to this day.
And thus however began the new timeline. After Treaty of Coruscant. It was neither good nor bad for both sides, as they suffered and gained equally. The Republic itself, even after twenty years of peace viewed that another war would likely bring billions, if not millions of losses once more. The Sith Empire had an edge, to which everything played out for them...At least in the very beginning.
But then things slowly started to collapse of our Empire's pride and arrogance. The stepping stone began with a large Slave revolt on Dromund Kaas, as the slaves who were building a monument to a Dark Lord of the Sith and Member of the Dark Council - Darth Vowrawn, suddenly armed themselves and attacked their masters. It's a difficult conclusion that many Sith face. Some say that Vowrawn's slaves armed themselves with help from the Dark Lord's rivals, some say that the slaves were armed by the slavers themselves who were not satisfied with the amount of money they received. Some others even argue that Darth Vowrawn himself put this into motion, to see how strong slave revolts could truly be. Alas, there was no real answer to what caused the uprising. However, the uprising was put down rather quickly by Imperial and Sith forces. But it was the beginning of something greater.
And the fore meaning of something greater? The terrorist 'Eagle's' open attacks on the Empire. The strongly boasted and unfortunately proven fact that the Citizens of the Empire were disillusioned by the Emperor's rule. They grew tired of living harsh lives, of being conscripted into the army, of not being paid enough for the work they add...For having their jobs and lives ruined by so many overflowing Slaves...And even the fact that they let slaves and evil, disgusting aliens into both the Imperial and Sith academies as students. Internal threats were finally aware when a flagship for tourism across the Empire owned by Darth Jadus suddenly exploded - resulting in the presumed deaths of Jadus and thousands aboard - both civilian and soldier alike. THIS began the public unrest that would soon grip The Sith Empire in the coming years. While It was slowly but surely put down by many elements, especially the infamous Imperial Intelligence, the wound never truly healed for the Empire.
It continued with The Empire's failed assault on the planet Voss, being utterly defeated. It also moved onto Balmorra, a planet that the Empire had received legally per the treaty - would secede from the Empire as well - legally, through the actions of the Republic in secret, in partisan warfare that resulted in the death of the Empire's governor of the planet and a further humiliation to the Empire - losing worlds one year at a time.
However, the Stih Empire wasn't the only one who was paying the price for the Cold War. The Republic itself, during the ensuing stages to repair public relations with their Core Worlds, faced a planet of their own that wished to secede. Ord Mantell. The reasons were limitless as well. The military on that same world was corrupt and incredibly abusive to it's citizens. It went to the point that Manett Point itself was quickly taken by the separatists during the initial stages of the rebellion. They took Republican weapons and used them against the Republic itself. The Republic's response was rather harsh and to the point - as they landed and made no effort to cease abusing the population and even proceeded to take innocent people In for even being suspected of harboring, or even aiding the separatists. While the rebellion itself failed, this itself proved to the people of the Republic that unity was far away from reality.
In that same essence, the Republic lost their own capital of Coruscant to many troubles, especially with politicians and the like. Whole sections of the lower levels were owned by organized crime syndicates, even former Republic soldiers and mercenaries that abandoned the Republic for having failed to do their job correctly - continuing to ensue problems and disunity as well as fear for a potential collapse of the Republic.
However, the stepping stone for the entire tragedy goes with Taris's reclamation efforts - as they so desperately tried to settle and repair the world to increase public opinion and add hope. However, this was a failure as much as everything else before - as Imperial forces quickly and decisively put an end to the charade, ensuring that the infamous legacy of Taris from the Sith's side never fades from memory. Sealing the world's fate.
Afterwards however, after much deliberation from both sides - war was no more a possibility. It was a fact. As the Sith Empire's Dark Lords plotted and deceived one another, the reality slowly ensured as many of the Republic would both fear and acknowledge: The Sith Empire declared war on The Galactic Republic and besieged Corellia, initially taking It for the Empire for a time. However, the invasion of Corellia was justified as the Galactic Republic did not cease interfering with the Empire itself. First with skirmishes and 'extractions' of valuable defectors, to secretly aiding in proxy wars. However, the sharp knife was drawn when the Republic itself acknowledged the fact that it allowed these skirmishes and minor conflicts to happen - ushering in even stronger hatred than years before - both sides concluding that the other would not be satisfied unless war finally determined the end.
This act ended The Cold War entirely, and began the infamously unconcluded Galactic War. Ushering in the fear that gripped the populations of both Galactic Powers: war has been declared, and the humiliated Galactic Republic was once again battling the previously victorious Sith Empire.

Ongoing Crisis
War in the Northern Territories

The Balance of Power in the Northern Territories!

"The Northern Territories shift under the weight of changing times. With the passage of the ICOT, internal strife amongst Imperial Forces in the North has lessened - though never abated. Although the momentum of the Republic has not yet been met entirely, fortification efforts and victorious naval campaigns have evened the footing at least slightly. Eyes align on systems such as Vykos, Nam'ta and Orsus to see how this proceeds.."

((OOC: The Balance of Power system has begun! Missions that relate to grand changes in the Northern Territories will have an impact on the balance of power shown above, with the end result being that the balance of power's state at the start of the next war arc will determine how strong the Republic will be in the area. The balance of power can be pushing in our favour with bigger scale events aimed at taking the Republic down or fortifying ourselves in the North. This can be achieved through Operations, Adventures and Guild Events. The blue represents the Republic, and the Empire is red! This is organised by the Guild Team, so please direct OOC questions to them.))
