Mission Report: Reinforcement on the Orsus Front
==========
A small holorecording would play once the file was downloaded. The voice of Harridax Geskar would play across the recording, somewhat haughty and rehearsed. It was very clearly a recording made for multiple uses.
" Listed below is my report of the recent occurrence for you to look over at your own leisure. The account is from my own perspective of events, with the report being wrote due to my place in the occurrence itself, as pivotal a role in the affair as it was."
And as soon as it had started, the brief recording was done. Following, the file would go into detail of the titled report.
==========
Stage 1 - Deployment and Arrangement:
During the briefing led by Sith Kaer, it came to my attention immediately that there was ten soldiers being sent on the mission, which was enough for a full squad with separated out fire teams. I will admit my own excitment at the prospective of organising such a squad, and when the briefing was concluded I gave my overview to Sergeant Quinton on how we should be organised as Fire Teams, with the following being what was decided.
Avos (Medical Team): Sergeant 'Victor' Quinton, Specialist 'Nachemi' Nachemi
Besh (Marksman Team): Specialist 'Thaarvas' Thaarvas, Specialist 'Wellsow' Javikan
Cresh (Infantry Team): Corporal 'Coach' Geskar, Specialist 'Tendav' Kolray, Private 'Ursh' Zeysan
Dorn (Heavy Team): Corporal 'Savior' Thymius, Specialist 'Shield' Naveil, Private 'Hado' Ker
The briefing unfolded with it becoming apparent the Outpost we were being sent to was in need of food, water, medical supplies and it known that there was injured in the field alongside an impending assault. Corporal Thymius was put in charge of the mission by Sergeant Quinton, who relegated herself to ensuring that the injured would survive with effective command being passed on. Corporal Thymius asked for such a command. At my recommendation, it was known that Avos would deal with the injured, Cresh would begin fortifying for the assault, Besh would begin getting setup for long range scouting and Dorn would float as necessary.
When we landed, the Outpost itself was in a sorry state. I quickly confirmed with the Corporal that the previously made plans were still in place and as such began organising the Fire Teams where I could under her outline. Besh was given free reign to find suitable overwatch points, while Cresh scouted out our own barricades to find which ones would be suitable and then mined a likely assault approach. Dorn began repairing barricades, in particular Specialist Naveil dug a foxhole that saved my life on multiple occasions when the fighting began. Avos began dealing with the wounded and saw them safely put aboard the shuttle.
==========
Stage 2 - The Defensive Line:
It was quickly established from the wounded that the assault would be coming from the western side of the camp. This saw two fronts established, with Avos and Cresh taking the North-West while Besh and Dorn took the South-West. This left Cresh with the Rifles of Cresh and the Marksman Rifles of Avos while Dorn had the Heavier weaponry of their Fire Team with Besh acting as their dedicated Marksman team. Specialist Tendav planted mines on the South-West approach to assist Dorn and Besh with my direction.
Seeing the fronts that could be opened, I organised my Fire Team accordingly and spoke with Corporal Thymius. This saw Besh on the southern most barricade, where their longer sightlines would prove useful against the South-West approach with Dorn on the next set of barricades up, with a height advantage over the road and overlooking the nearest possible enemy cover with their heavier weaponry. Cresh took the next bunker, which faced the North-West side, with Avos coming in to support us early on the fighting. As the fighting developed, Avos would take the bunker while I led Cresh to attempt to hold the high ground against the incoming assault.
When the numbers were noted, all in all, it became apparent that on the North-West side we were facing some twenty Troopers, ten Grenadiers and a Walker while we ourselves consisted of Two Fire Teams totally five soldiers. While Corporal Thymius' estimates will prove more accurate for the South-West, I heard they also faced some two dozen Troopers and a Walker.
==========
Stage 3 - The North-West Defense:
When the battle began, the two flanks remained in contact but were effective separate for the combat. Early on the enemy Walker emerged and I radioed in requesting some kind of heavy armament to take it down. When I was handed an Ion Grenade, I stowed it onto my belt and advised Avos to hold the bunker and to return fire when able, even as supressed as they were from the Walker while I led a flank to try and maintain a grip of the high ground. Thus, Cresh was taken out of our bunker and into the Imperial Outpost itself, where we then sprang out from to begin our flank.
It was at this early point that the enemies' numbers advantage became prevalent. While Avos was able to pick off the odd Trooper here and there, they were largely suppressed by the Walker and the Republic Troopers had already begun their own flank, in the same direction that I had led Cresh. Such a manoeuvre left both sides unable to push a strategic advantage and forced a common firefight, with which we were lesserly able to maintain due to our smaller numbers. I requested covering fire from Avos onto what had become the 'northern' flank in which Cresh fought, which was delivered while I organised Cresh into 'covered advancement' which saw two of Cresh lay down suppressive fire while one moved up to a new piece of cover. Specialist Tendav was the brave soul who went first, and made it across without incident. I then ordered the same again, with Private Ursh being the next to move across with Specialist Tendav and myself providing the covering fire. I did this despite seeing the Walker turn to face its barrel towards myself, knowing that I could have ordered the Private to sit tight and cover my advancement, but instead opted for them to make it out of the Walker's fire in exchange for myself.
The Walker shot at myself, blowing up my cover and sending me flying. Cresh was in a suitable piece of cover to hold an advancement pinned, and they did so while I managed to crawl prone into the foxhole that Specialist Naveil had created. It was at this point, that I turned my attention back to the Walker and with it pointed at me still, saw half of its armaments blown off by a Thermal Detonator thrown by Specialist Nachemi of Avos. Such was a brave move, and I decided then and there that she would need to be noted for such a maneveur to hurt the walker in such a way. Back with Cresh, I pivoted and unloaded fire into advancing Republic Troopers and Cresh was ordered to hold the line braced. We held, and I pivoted back to see how Avos was doing as the Walker had not fired on me and found that it had turned to face both of them. It was here that I saw that the Specialist Nachemi was not done with the Walker and saw her charge out from cover from my Foxhole, Thermal Detonator in hand. She distracted the Walker from taking shots at anyone else and threw her detonator just as the Walker took shots at her. Near enough simultaneously, Specialist Nachemi ripped open the cockpit of the Walker, destroying it utterly and completely in her brave charge, while she received a crippling shot from the Walker that sent her flying back several metres into the dirt. She was unconscious before she hit the ground and Sergeant Quinton immediately went to work stabilising her. I make no small note when I say that without the efforts of Specialist Nachemi, the North-West flank would have been overrun entirely and that she was willing to sacrifice her life for our Empire, and nearly did. Reports after dictated that she suffered from multiple broken ribs and punctures across her chest and stomach.
With Avos effectively trading themselves for the Walker, Cresh was forced to divert attention onto the remaining Troopers near the Walker while simultaneously holding down the Northern flank. While on a squad of six Republic Troopers, Specialist Tendav was heavily wounded and left combat ineffective while he and Private Ursh killed all of them. Barely able to repulse the incoming forces and wounded in both Fire Teams, I requested support from Besh and Dorn and was declined. After Specialist Nachemi was stabilised, Sergeant Quinton returned to the field and began taking out Troopers once again. It was here, that the Grenade Launchers entered into the field.
Ten Grenadiers setup a backline and began bombarding away at our emplacements. From my Foxhole, I was able to shoot at them relatively easily without impunity, and as a result I was targeted early on by the barrage. I will reiterate that without Specialist Naveil's fortification, I would not be here to write about it. The Grenade Launchers peppered around me as I attracted their ire while Sergeant Quinton advanced over an open field and Private Zeysan Ursh advanced from cover to cover to put pressure on the Grenadiers. Between the three of us, we managed to kill a handful of them but all of us were wounded in the process. The Sergeant was pinned down behind a rock, heavily wounded from her advancement across the field while Private Ursh took blaster bolts to the chest, stalling their advancement. Specialist Nachemi was still unconscious and Specialist Tendav began shooting, but was from this point considered combat ineffective due to their severe wounds. One of the Grenadiers landed a grenade near enough ontop of the foxhole, which ripped apart my right arm and left me largely combat ineffective, now unable to use my full Blaster Rifle.
I switched to my Scatterblaster and requested support for the second time, and this time was responded with confirmation that support would either arrive from Besh or Dorn or Reinforcements led by Sith Kaer. I ordered Cresh to retreat, which saw Private Ursh retreat to Specialist Tendav and the pair of them being able to get back into the Imperial Outpost, both now Combat Ineffective. Sergeant Quinton was unable to retreat due to being pinned and I attempted to relieve some pressure, but was targetted again by the Grenadiers and was forced to vacate the Foxhole and retreat to the Outpost myself, leaving me reunited with my battered comrades of Cresh.
Unable to mount a counterattack to save Sergeant Quinton, we were fortunate that Sith Kaer's reinforcements arrived when they did, for they saw the Republic Troopers outright retreat at the sight of more Troopers. I moved out of the camp and began to carry back Sergeant Quinton while I ordered Private Ursh to carry Specialist Nachemi into the camp. Specialist Naveil took over carrying the Sergeant due to my arm, and when back in the camp we quickly patched up the wounded to stabilise them before moving onto the shuttle.
When back on the shuttle, the comms lit up by Private Ker, saying that someone had died. I rushed out, leading the remnants of Cresh in the form of Private Ursh over to Private Ker, and found that Specialist Wellsow was peppered with blaster fire. I ordered for Sergeant Quinton's Advanced Medkit and her adrenals to be brought to me and using my knowledge of First Aid, was able to stabilise the Specialist while one armed, ordering Specialist Naveil to hold Specialist Wellsow still and ordered Private Ker to act as a nurse and to speak with the wounded to keep him conscious and with us. Corporal Thymius acted as my assistant throughout the brief stabilisation, ensuring that we did not lose a soldier in the field. After such, we all got onto the shuttle and the mission concluded.
==========
Assessment and Recommendations:
My assessment of the mission is that we went in unknowing the full assault force that would be up against us. In total, we were outnumbered 6-1 with our enemy having both heavy ordnance and Walkers. Suffice to say we were completely outmatched and we are fortunate that none of our squad died, though to say we were fortunate after seeing the wounds that some of my comrades received tastes bitter in my mouth. I recommend that we promote or incentivize the specialisations of Grenadier and Anti-Tank Specialist further, to ensure that as our Platoon grows more skilled we can fill in such gaps in our ability to work as a team and that from now on, the first priority of every mission should be having a Fire Team consisting of vehicles to ensure that we can dole out heavy fire of our own, consisting of Walkers or Tanks.
==========
Commendations:
My sole commendation, above all others, is that Specialist Nachemi receives The Imperial Cross of Heroism Medal. She single handedly turned the tide of the entire battle at great expense to herself and thusly saved nine soldiers in the field from what would have been imminent death. I will be personally thanking the Specialist when I see them next and would urge any CO or SCO to consider offering them a Written Commendation for their duty in the field.
