During my time within the Sith ranks, it has occurred to me how little information there was on Holocrons, their history, importance and of course, their construction. It would seem that the Sith who found the means to create them, simply refuse to share their knowledge on how to construct them. There is sense behind that. People do not want to share a powerful tool with prying eyes. Regardless, as Lorekeeper, it my duty to learn and record everything humanly possible.

General Understanding

It is known that a Holocron is a hand-held device that is a portable limitless archive. It is a means to store all manners of information in a secure fashion to avoid getting an electrical virus, getting hacked, or losing vital knowledge. As stated before, this device is limitless. With technology, there is always a limit, but never with the Force. The Creator of a Holocron can spend their lifetime filling the Holocron with knowledge, and still have space to house much more.

What makes this device unique is the fact that the Holocron is connected to the Force. The Force is used mostly in the construction and throughout its entire existence. It is also vital to know that only Force users are able to attempt and access Holocrons. Non-Force users will have no means to open any holocron. 

There are methods to ensure that not everyone can access a Holocron. The Creator can choose to either engrave Sith hieroglyphics which hold a sorceress curse, or more curses, or use the symbols to create a form of a lock. The Creator could have another method where only their bloodline may access the device, or set it up where the viewer will have to pass a trial that is set up in order to access the contents. Should the Creator not know of curses to secure their Holocron, they can create barriers themselves while pouring their information and memories into the Holocron itself. The curses is just a means of added security. With this last method, it is done through the one that is created called the Gatekeeper.

The Gatekeeper is made once the completion of the Rite of Commencement and the crystal, or capstone, is made. The Gatekeeper is known to take the form of the Creator of the Holocron due to the bond struck during the ritual between Creator and crystal.

The Gatekeeper is the one who the viewer will speak with and attempt to access the contents of the device. The Creator would use the Gatekeeper to create trials to test the viewer, and have the Gatekeeper deny any eyes that belong to an enemy. The only way to get rid of the Gatekeeper is to destroy the crystal, or capstone rather. However, in destroying the crystal, not only does the Gatekeeper disappear, so does all the information. Hence why I believe that Sith go to great lengths to protect their Gatekeeper by engraving Sith hieroglyphics and adding in trials. It is also said that destroying the crystal, it is best for the destroyer to flee if they wish to survive the attack, therefore it is recommended to not destroy nor harm any Holocron.

As for the creation behind the physical casing of the Holocron, it should come as no surprise that this is also a tasking step to complete. The outer casing of the device should be a flat, smooth surface for the Creator to place Sith hieroglyphics on the casing to provide extra protection, perhaps add a lock of some kind, or to add a few curses to ensure that the Holocron does not fall into the wrong hands. The outer as well as the inner workings of the Holocron has to be done with steady, patient hands. Should the Creator rush the process in building the casing, the curses of the hieroglyphics could turn on the Creator, or the device can explode in their hands, or drive the Creator insane. It is key to note that should any who wish to create their own Holocron, that patience is very important. This device basically forbids haste and requires time in order for it to work to the Creator’s expectations.

Materials Needed

• Metal > This is to be used to forge and bend to shape the base of the Holocron. Note: it should be a strong enough metal to sustain any form of trauma, from physical attacks to the attacks of the Force.
  
  
• Glass > The glass is meant to conceal the innards of the Holocron. Note: If the Creator does not wish to use glass, they can use either metal or stone. What is important regardless, is that the surface has to be polished down smoothly to ensure that the engravings of the hieroglyphics are readable and that the protection/curse spell is not hindered in any shape or form.
  
  
  
• Barrier > A barrier of the mind needs to be strong to contain and protect the secrets within the Holocron from all manners of corruption and enemies who attempt to steal information. Note: from my understanding, I believe that this is the most important material needed for the construction. The stronger the barrier is, the harder it is for secrets from within to be exposed. Your mind must be at its strongest to create the strongest barrier possible.
  
  
• Crystal > The crystal goes inside the Holocron, and it is one that is bound to you and you alone. Similar to a synthetic crystal one would make for a lightsaber, but from my understanding, the bond needs to run deeper than that. The crystal needs to be a natural crystal to ensure that it never breaks. A natural crystal that bonds itself to the Creator ensures that the creation process is slightly easier, all the while making the Holocron all the more powerful.
  
  
• Minute complex lattices > This material goes inside of the Holocron casing.
  
  
• Interwoven strands of crystal >This material also goes inside of the Holocron casing. Note: this, along with the lattices are meant to be done and adjusted to extreme precision to ensure that the data inside is stored with perfection inside.

Rite of Commencement

This Rite is, from my understanding, seems to be the most tasking, exhausting, difficult and most important step to take for the creation of the Holocron. It is the ritual where the Creator has to bond with the crystal that goes within the Holocron. The crystal itself should be in sync with your own spirit, in order for the Gatekeeper to appear and open an easy pathway for information to be stored.

It is important to note that the crystal, also known as the capstone, to be found first before the creation of the physical case of the Holocron. The metal and glass case can be made with some form of ease, but the crystal is the key behind this historical device. If the Creator decides to make the case first, and then work on the crystal whilst it is stored inside the case, one misstep, and the Holocron will explode, causing the Creator to start completely from the beginning. One does not know how small or large the crystal will be, and once the crystal enters the casing, it has to be made to fit the crystal perfectly, or the casing will turn to dust. So once again, the crystal has to be made firstand when there is perfect success in the crystal, then can the Creator focus on the casing of their Holocron. It has to be done with much care, patience and strong will. It is said that the creation of the Holocron can take up to months, perhaps even a year or more, and I believe it rests on this Rite.
The crystal has been bonded with the Creator, there is no manner of words to emphasize the importance of this fact. The crystal is holding a part of the Creator. It should be as if when the Holocron is activated, the viewer is speaking to the Creator directly when addressing the Gatekeeper.

Through time and some difficulty, I managed to obtain the information on the Rite of Commencement. The Creator has to replicate themselves in the presence of both the crystal and the casing as the two items will be fused together. The Rite is done through a new level of meditation. Those who have dealt with a Holocron before know that a form of meditation is needed to activate the Holocron before them. The Rite begins this way, through a meditation to activate the crystal. Once the process begins, the Creator will venture from the Dark Side of the spectrum, making it such that the fuse between the Creator and the crystal commences. Through the fusing of the two, the network will be created that connects with the Holocron from within.

This network created will take the form of a web of sorts, starting with a center point and spreading out in various directions like a virus or veins within a living creature. The center is the center of the Creator. It will stem from emotional turmoil and make the Creator face the monster that is inside of them, and the Creator has to embrace this monster. This will prove to be taxing, straining and difficult, as the Creator will be tested unlike ever before as they have to face their deepest pain, fears, terrors, hatred and anger as they tap into the full power of the Dark Side. Through this, the Creator begins to weave themselves into their crystal housed inside the casing. The crystal, being alive will choose to either accept the Creator’s efforts and change, allowing it to be a reflection of the Creator, or the crystal will deny this effort because the effort was not true enough from the Creator, and the casing will disintegrate and cause the Creator to start from the beginning.

Should the crystal accept the effort, seeing it worthy, the Rite is complete. Once completed, the Creator will enter a void and the process can begin where the Creator can shape this void to their choosing, adding in security, barriers, tests, information, memories, anything they desire. The most preferred option for the Creator is to share everything they know, as knowledge determines the importance of legacy.

Final Thoughts

As my time as Lorekeeper, I will seek out more possible information on Holocrons and update this report. I would advise that those who wish to create a Holocron should do so after they have left the bounds of Apprenticeship. Sith leading up to Sith Lords and Darths would be the preferred class for Holocrons to be created because as an Apprentice, you are still learning to control your emotions.

Knowledge is power, but do so at your own risk. Succeed, and your legacy will continue after your death.
