A guide to the Structure of the Horuset Purifiers

Introduction


The Purifiers have existed in many forms since their inception. Under their original creator they were a tool for the subjugation of lesser species; a worthy goal, but one that is ultimately too small to require an entire branch to complete. Under Sith Natsiji, the Purifiers expanded their remit to include education and enforcement; but this too was limited in scope, seeing only to police a powerbase whose strength and commitment to the Dark Side are, and always have been, absolute. 


Now is a time for the Purifiers to expand once again, to spread beyond the limitations of acting within the powerbase; no longer will they function as a service with which to chastise wayward apprentices, but instead as an institution devoted to upholding the true Philosophy and ideals of the Sith, as embodied by Darth Horuset herself. The Purifiers will become a part of the engine of War, as well as the cycle of ascension from Acolyte to Apprentice to Household Sith. 


Their mandates will be set forth in this document, adapted from the work of myself and Sith Natsiji.

Structural Changes


In order to implement and enforce the Reforms detailed in the rest of this guide, the entire organisational table and structure of the Purifier’s office must be addressed, reworking the office from the foundations up. To that end the following reforms have been made:

The End of the Disciples [indent]There will no longer be a single Purifier and their Disciples: Instead, the structure of the Reformed Purifier’s office will resemble that of the Overseers branch, encompassing Sith Purifier, Purifiers, and Assistant-Purifiers To represent their more independent nature these followers shall no longer be called ‘Purifier’s Disciples’ instead bear the mononym ‘Purifier';  There will be a hierarchy within the ranks of the Purifiers, with the Sith Purifier remaining at the top; beneath them the Purifiers; and beneath them, the Assistant-Purifiers; The Sith Purifier retains ultimate and absolute authority over all matters of the office, second only to the Dark Lord, her appointed Hand Lord Kalkoran, and the Envoy of Tradition. [/indent] The Expansion of the Purifiers [indent] In order to perform the new mandates of the Purifier’s office, the official structure will expand to make room for Assistant-Purifiers. The exact duties of this roll are to be a codified version of the regular Purifiers, though with less authority and benefits. The Assistant-Purifiers shall not have the authority to arrest members of the powerbase, but may assist in those matters; They will not be expected to participate in missions in the same way as the regular Purifiers, though may do so if they choose to; They are permitted to be members of more than one branch, unlike the regular Purifiers. This is a deliberate choice to foster the relationship between the Purifiers and the Sith Alchemist, Sorcerer, Lorekeeper, Claviger and Immortus. [/indent] An end to Theatre [indent]There are to be no more theatrics when it comes to punishing those who commit heresy. There will be no acknowledgement of those who commit heresy as anything more than heretics. To be charged with heresy will not grant you your five minutes in the Powerbase’s spotlight. There will be no announcement, there will be no Holo-recording of your torture and there will be no clarifications. There will only be punishment; The appropriate authority is always to be consulted where necessary; particularly Overseers where the punishment of Acolytes is concerned, but also the Master of an Apprentice; In the case of a dispute between the Purifiers and the relevant authority as mentioned above, a private hearing may be called to determine the appropriate course of action as determined by Darth Horuset and Lord Kalkoran.[/indent]

Duties of the Sith Purifiers

In order to facilitate a clarity of understanding, the duties and responsibilities of the Purifiers are laid out here to be followed by members of the branch.

Duty of Philosophy [indent] The Purifiers must all know by heart the Sith Code, Tenets of Tradition, and Purifier Reforms. The Purifiers must be knowledgeable about the Philosophy of the Sith and Tradition. They are not expected to be immediate experts, but should constantly work towards perfection.  The Purifiers will seek to educate, inform, and enlighten Acolytes and their fellow apprentices on Philosophy where the opportunity presents itself.  The Purifiers will seek to take their fellow apprentices ‘under their wings’ where necessary to tutor them in Philosophy; this may be done by the Apprentice volunteering, being put forward by their master, or if necessary by approaching their master for permission to tutor them. [/indent] Duty of Education [indent] The Purifiers, alongside the Overseers, will hold regular lessons / lectures for the Acolytes on the subjects of Philosophy and Tradition, to ensure every generation has a firm foundation.  The Purifiers will keep a close eye on all acolytes in a generation to prevent heresy or doubt from taking root in their minds. The Sith are as strong as their weakest link.  The Purifiers should seek to maintain a good relationship with the Overseer branch, and where possible, seek roles as Assistant-Overseer to facilitate this. [/indent] Duty of Protection [indent] The Purifiers will assist the departments of the Sith Alchemist, Sith Sorcerer, and Sith Immortus in the safeguarding of the Ancient Arts of Sorcery and Alchemy.  The Purifiers will make themselves available to the above-mentioned branches for the safeguarding of the Ancient Arts, should such be required by their leaders, and act under their command if necessary for short times. The Purifiers should seek to maintain a good relationship with the above-mentioned branches, and where possible seek roles as Disciples or Assistants within those branches. [/indent] Duty of Vigilance [indent] The Purifiers will create, oversee, and maintain a network of information-gathering “ informants” within the powerbase to stay informed on matters of politics and philosophy going on within it. The information within this network will be kept to the strictest level of confidentiality.  This information will never be used for politics, only for the seeking out of heresy and philosophical disputes within the powerbase. [/indent] Duty of Responsibility  [indent] The Purifiers must adhere at all times to the Purifier Reforms; This especially pertains to the sections on Punitive and Investigative procedures, which must be followed during any investigation or punishment rendered by the Purifiers. [/indent] Duty of Pursuance [indent] The Purifiers should continually seek heresy and dissent, both within (and importantly) without the Powerbase.  Regular missions ought to be undertaken to specifically target cells of Jedi, deserters from the Empire, or factions espousing heretical beliefs on the fringes of our borders.  During wartime, the Purifiers should work to uphold the values of the Sith and the Empire among the population of whichever planet they are stationed on, enforcing propaganda and fostering loyalty to the Empire and Sith. Spoiler: The Laws We Enforce

The Laws We Enforce
The core purpose of the Purifiers is maintaining the spiritual purity of the powerbase; this on its own is an inadequate description, a task without end. So, to clarify the fine details of that purpose, these seven tenets detail more closely what law the purifiers must uphold within House Horuset; they are extrapolated form the core Tenets created by Sith Arvanis, and seek to clarify what particular parts are to be enforced by Purifiers, as well as additional duties not expected of other Sith. 

First Tenet: Live by the Code [indent] The Sith Code is more than a phrase of devotion or ancient wisdom; they are words to guide your life, and must be treated with due respect; In reverence of Sorzus Syn, the code’s words must be preserved now as they were written then; Living in defiance of or counter to the ideology of the Code shall be punished most severely. [/indent] Second Tenet: Coveting false ideology [indent] As Sith, we must reject all ideologies which are not our own, as they inspire nothing but weakness;  The worship of alien religion, the observance of non-Sith cultural traditions, and other such acts are considered heresy. [/indent] Third Tenet: Act according to your station [indent] Sith culture is predicated on structure and hierarchy; all who exist within the Sith must obey that structure, from the lowest Acolyte to the Dark Lord herself;  This includes those with roles adjacent to the hierarchy, such as Overseers, the Warriors, and even the Purifiers themselves; Those who are found to act in a way unbefitting their station - particularly those who attempt to stretch their authority - shall be regulated.  [/indent] Fourth Tenet: The strong shall rule, the weak obey [indent] Structure is informed by and enforced by strength. Among those of the same station, the strongest must dominate those weaker than them to earn their place in the hierarchy;  When the weak attempt to lash out at the strong, then the strong are within their rights to beat them back into place. This natural order must be upheld at all times - for one of the weak to speak out against one of the strong is an insult to all those with strength.  [/indent] Fifth Tenet: Do not dilute the teachings of Sorcery [indent] The ancient arts of Sorcery and Alchemy are the product and heritage of the Sith People, and belongs to them alone by right; Only those with Sith ancestry may be taught Sorcery or Alchemy. Exception may be granted only by Darth Horuset and Lord Kalkoran directly, on individual basis; Those found teaching Sorcery or Alchemy to aliens shall be harshly punished;  Those aliens found learning or practicing Sorcery or Alchemy, from any source, shall likewise be punished. [/indent] Sixth Tenet: Acts of Carelessness [indent] Blatant acts of destruction and carelessness will not be tolerated; to survive in the world of the Sith, one must use subtlety and guile to accomplish their goals, as well as brute force;  Those foolish enough to be caught in schemes against their fellow Sith shall be treated with the same care they give their own plans; a master has no use for a blunt tool, and a good Sith must be a mixture of clandestine skill as well as martial prowess. [/indent] Seventh Tenet: Serve the Sith Empire before all others [indent] We are servants of the Emperor first, and must obey his rule; those found acting against the broader laws of the Empire and Sith as set forth by the Emperor or his Dark Council shall be treated as traitors;  Any member of the powerbase who acts in open defiance or opposition to Darth Horuset, Lord Kalkoran or their interests shall likewise be treated as a traitor, and punished severely; The goal of every Sith, no matter how lowly, must be to further and serve the powerbase and the Empire together; acting in self-interest only is not good enough. [/indent]

The Response to Heresy
The Purifiers’ response to Heresy once discovered will no longer be one of Theatrical Chaos. The process of investigation and punishment will be methodical, efficient and perhaps most importantly of all, silent. 
To that end, the processes by which the Purifiers arrive at their decisions and investigate heresy are to be kept within the branches documentation. These records and strictures may be accessed by request by Household Sith and above.
